I picked up this Jurassic Park a short time ago as stated in previous thread and I am overall happy with the machine, but not happy with previous cleaning/shop outs. I decided to do a quality shop job and repair anything that comes along before it goes in the house.

So far I know I have some bulbs out and at least 1 switch that needs to be replaced, other than that, lots of teardown/clean/polish/wax/rerubber etc etc. I decided to remove the playfield to strip it which will make it easier to use my Treasure Cove polishing kit.

And so it begins......... - Barry

Got my table set up today. I took off a couple underside brackets and made some out of angle aluminum that bolt to existing holes and ran bolts out to rest on some 2x4's. This allows access underneath and hinges still for better access.

Started teardown as well. This thing is disgusting. It didn't look that dirty, but it's amazing how nasty it gets in the hard to see areas. - Barry

Well truth be told of the literally 10-15 (All Jurassic Parks) machines I was interested in yours looks pretty darn clean to me in comparison with the exception to H.E.P.'s aka Chris H.'s, Stangbat's since he did a NOS playfield, and another really clean game I came across. Beauty is In the eye of the beholder I guess.

looks like you have your work cut out for you.. Soon enough I'll have one (*Crosses fingers*). I love the game, Obsessed with the movie. Since your going through all of this work I would advise adding new D.E. "yellow" flippers, matches better. I think I might invest in a tumbler at some point to clean tiny parts. I remember when I was younger I had one which was more of a toy which you placed rocks inside and it polished them up, I'd be willing to bet it would work great on various nuts/bolts. I'll start to do some research on that soon enough. Any ways good luck with your shopping out.

I meant it's just dirty - far worse than I expected only because the previous owner said he shopped it. I am happy with the overall condition though. I was a little hesitant to pull it from the cabinet, but I think it's alot easier to work on this way.

I have some parts already - new yellow flipper bats, green flipper rubber, cliffy protector set, balls.

I'm placing an order today for a bunch more parts......

I hope you find one, I really dig this game. - Barry

Got most of the playfield stripped. Before the tear down I had a bulb not working above the bunker, I swapped bulbs and it still wouldn't work. I found a broken wire this evening and fixed that. I've been putting .062 molex connections on everything I pull out rather than having to de-solder, it will make re-assembly that much easier - thanks to Dokert for that idea. Enough for today.. - Barry

Got the playfield stripped of parts, cleaned it thoroughly with simple green and microfiber cloths. Did first step of the Treasure Cove polishing system with powercut #3. The playfield has some scratches I just won't be able to get out, but they aren't very noticeable unless you're looking for them. Still a few more steps of polishing left, but the shine is coming back - Barry

I'm going to need sources for parts once I get the game. If you don't mind me asking where do you buy your parts from ?

I know of:

Pinball Life
Bay Area
Marco

Sure, I got some of my parts at a couple vendors at the NW Pinball & Arcade show, 1 was Illinois Pinball and I can't remember the other but I'll try to find out as he is who I got flipper bats, colored flipper rubber, cliffys and balls.

I have had good experiences with....

Pinball Life
Bay Area Amusements
Planetary Pinball
Pinball Resource
Mad Amusements
Marco
Cliffy (passionforpinball.com)

I used Pinball Life and Bay Area for all the parts I ordered yesterday with the majority coming from Pinball Life.

I like Marco, but their shipping is a bit high IMO so I only go there is there is no other option.

Pinball Resource's website isn't the best but you can email them with part numbers as they have a ton of parts not listed.

Polishing is done and I've applied a few coats of wax. I also started re-assembly. Today I picked up a parts tumbler to clean up the metal parts. Long way to go....... - Barry

Still plugging away on this. Seems like every assembly I go to rebuild, I find more parts I need to replace. The I keep having to order more parts, even after I just got parts - the shipping is killing me..... Anyways, I got the ball trough all cleaned and reinstalled, pop bumpers rebuilt, flippers rebuilt, and a few more parts installed. - Barry

Not too much progress on this lately. Got some more parts today and started a couple lighting mods. I'm going to backlight the banner "When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth". I also wanted to light up the backround. I saw some people have used green led's from behind the banner shining down on the backround. It looks OK, but I decided to backlight it. I made a new backer today and am waiting on led's to show up.

I'm heading to California Wed for vacation and CAX so work stops for a week or 2. - Barry

Waiting on led's....... I thought Cointaker was going to be at CAX but they weren't. I ordered on the 4th and still not here yet. I dropped off the legs, hinges and lockdown bar today to be powdercoated. I am doing the siderails as well, but I ruined them getting them off the machine so new ones are on the way. Hoping it turns out good. - Barry

Haven't updated this for a while. I have the majority of the playfield back togethter except the subway ramp and main ramp. I am working on some lighting mods and once I have those figured out to my liking I'll finish the playfield.

Today I adjusted the flippers and eos switches, reflowed the headers on the flipper board and the t-rex relay. I decided to reflow all the headers on the boards as some preventative maintenance and I'm glad I did. I didn't find any bad ones yet, but I did find some cracked fuse clips. I'll order those today and replace them all.

Still have to repaint the inner cabinet sides, put felt on the sides of the playfield, clean the inside of the cab, replace the fuseclips, resolder all the headers on the boards, and a few other misc things and I'm back in business......... - Barry

looking good, take pictures and a right up on the light mods, I am right behind you doing mine.

Peace, B.

Fantastic job Barry! Compared to what you're doing my last shop job was a breeze!

Thanks Tom. I've been taking way too long, I just want to play it.

I got more done on 1 of 2 lighting mods today. I have a circuit to build to finish it off, but here is a preview. - Barry

Looking great so far, can I ask you a question, I can't seem to remove my upper right post where you have a red rubber on it to the right of the ramp the upper hole where your cliffy is... how do you remove that post ? I've even tried going underneath and just keeps turning, what's the secret to removing that damn post! I probably wont remember to revisit this thread initially, PM me please!!

BTW I love the lighted "when dino's rule the earth sign"... you should offer a kit!

Finally got the backround plastic back on the machine today. I wanted to backlight it to brighten up the back as it's really dark. I didn't want it too bright, just a nice glow. I got the results I wanted. Getting closer to putting the playfield back in...... - Barry

Made some more progress today. I got the first coat of paint on the inner sides of the cabinet, 1 or 2 more should do it. Now that the backround is back in time for the ramp. I cleaned and polished it today. I threw the metal parts in the tumbler so they should be done in a day or so. Cleaned up the subway ramp as well. These are the last 2 parts to go back on so I can reinstall the playfield. -Barry
