So a buddy is hooking me up with a jungle lord pin for free. I never had a
pin before but I figure the kids will enjoy it and maybe I will as well.
Supposedly its in decent cosmetic shape but needs a new system board?
and a new display? Umm where could I find these things? Any clue on cost?
Are we talking plug and play like a video game?

I dont have the faintest clue about pinballs so please help a newb out:)

I plan on grabbing it Friday so I'll give more details what it is and isnt doing then.

I thought about getting a pin for quite a while but just havent pulled the
trigger.. This will be a good intro pin I'm thinking. Though I always saw myself
as a space theme sorta pin guy. Would this be tradeable for any space
theme pins down the road? (prince range wise) Or is it not worth much
working?

If the stuff truly is bad, Rottendog (www.rottendog.us) makes a System 7 MPU. A lot of their stuff is unavailable through them so you might have to get it from a vendor.

I used MAD-Amusements.com. He's a really fast shipper for us east coast guys. I ordered something in the morning and had it the next afternoon. I couldn't believe it.

Pinscores is a well known maker of aftermarket displays. I have one of their power supplies in my Pinbot, but my displays are original so I don't know anything about them.

Two things... Get ready to swallow your gum when you first look in the backbox and under the playfield. The worst vid is suddenly going to look like a kindergarten math assignment. Second, start looking for change under the cushions. Pinball MPU's and displays often cost as much as a nice working vid. ;)

Pricey as they are, I love having the pins. Really rounds out the gameroom in a way I really couldn't grasp until they were in there.

PS, just found K's Arcade has a refurb original System 7 board for $165.

Good luck!

Just so you know...probably better figure $4-500 in parts minimum to get it going if you need a new CPU and displays + whatever else rears its' ugly head. The act of physically replacing the cpu and displays is "plug and pray". Yes, they just plug in pretty much. The "pray" part comes from the fact that installing a new CPU may uncover a ton of other problems you didn't know existed - potentially damaging the new cpu in the process. So there is a little bit of an art to it. It's best to leave the playfield disconnected the first time you power it up. Get the power supply solid, get the cpu booting - then tackle the playfield and switch matrix's & coils, etc.

Trade value? who knows. It's a "lower end" machine. It's my experience that trades are hard to pull off on the cheaper stuff. It's usually just easier to sell outright and buy outright.

Also, remove the batteries from the MPU and install a remote battery holder. That should be in the top of your first-things-to-do list.
