I've been working on converting an Elevator Action back into a Jungle Hunt. I've done some repair here and there on a hand full of games, but this has been my biggest undertaking. Luckily, converting this game back isn't too big of a deal. I did have to install a new monitor though.

Having some problems with the conversion.

1. No sound in the game. I've checked the pots on the board and they are up. Wiggling them doesn't produce any static or crackle in the speaker. There is no buzz/hum in the speaker. Board was purchased tested and working.

I hooked up the Elevator Action board and got no sound with it either. I don't know about the state it was in when I got the game, but I know that at one point not too long ago the sound was working when it was Elevator Action.

Any ideas here? I don't know what else to check. I checked the continuity of the speaker wire with a multimeter and it checked out.

2. Coin up switches not coining up/Coin door lights extremely dim. There is a test coin switch on the coin door and that does register a credit, but neither of the actual switches work. I swapped out burned out light in the coin door and they glow extremely dim. I am pretty sure I am using the correct bulbs (#44).

I did quite a bit of work during the restore and may have messed up something along the way. I removed the control panel, added new switch type buttons, removed the coin-door and cleaned/painted it, added a new monitor, did some painting on the cab... any idea what might be causing one, or both of these problems?

One thing. At the board, there is this loose connector. I dont remember unplugging this from anything and cant tell where it might go looking at the schematics. Could this have anything to do with my problems?

EDIT: I just hooked up another speaker to check and still nothing.

Update

I started adjusting the voltage on the (original) power supply and was able to get the lights on the coin door to brighten up (slightly) and now the coin mechs register the coin switches. Still no sound.

Huh. I plugged it in to show my girlfriend and everything works all of the sudden. Sound came on and the coon door lights are bright as fuck. Weird.

I have that same loose connector. I have no idea what it is or where it goes, but the game plays fine so I'm not worried about it. :)

Update for anyone who may come across this thread in the future. It turns out it was shorting out in the coin door. I had a bad connection on one of my lights.

Working on a jungle king for a friend with exactly the same issue. Do you have any coin door pictures that could help us out?

You may want to check all voltages again for the proper value. You really don't want to have too much voltage on the +5 volt line, you could fry your chip.

Also I think elevator action to jungle king is just a rom swapp? Not shure.

power supply

First of all, ditch that old power supply! Your gonna have all kinds of issues with it.. Arcadeshop and a few other vendors sell switcher kits..

The biggest 2 problem areas on all taitos are the edge connector and molex connector to the pcb.. the harness is heavy and after years of hanging there the connectors loosen up.. if you wiggle the molex connector on the pcb sound my pop on.. also make sure your pots are turned up or even work..

Also, the large interconnect pcb is usually a mess.. if you wiggle the connectors on that you'll may get sound, color changes, and all kinds of wacky stuff.. reflow the solder on the back of each pin on that pcb..

i'm currently also rebuilding a junlge king cabinet and i have the same loose wire. is it possible that it connects somewhere on the pcb? i don't have an original pcb here atm, so i can't check, but this looks like a connector which could go an a circuit board!

since in ends in two connectors which are tied to the coin door molex connector, my guess is that connector is for the coin counter!

my machine is missing the original power supply completely, but the harness has a switcher wired in. however, i'm having a hard time setting the wiring up correctly. if anyone is bored and wants to help me out, please check out the link posted above!

Loose wire

Your loose wire isn't needed for anything on a Jungle King. Not sure why taito kept those on there, maybe for service? That wire is used on ZK, and Qix for the memory check I think.. Both Qix and zookeepers I own have it in use, connected to a second interlock switch inside the coindoor... but my frontline and (2) jungle kings just have it hanging off the harness.. So I hope this answers your question.. Just ignor it :)
