I have the feeling im about to get stiffed here for 35.00 let me know what you guys think.

I have an arcade friend that asked me to to test some guys (lives six hours away) berzerk board set in my working cab. I don not know this guy but agree to test it out, and of coarse its dead. My arcade friend, that I may only talk to twice every six months, gives the boards owner my phone no so he calls me directly. He asks me to test each board individually in my boardset to weed out the bad boards, I agree but explain im not a repair person. The Zpu is dead I call him back and explain an he wants me to hold onto the boards and he would mail me a good zpu to test with. Fast forward 8 months (two weeks ago) this guy calls me up and wants his boards back. I tell him ill stop at the post office and let him know the shipping costs. I send him an email with the cost (35.00) and leave it at that. Forward another week the guy emails me and says he hasnt received his boards, I dont respond right away and he calls me two nights later and asks what happened. I tell him I havent received the paypal for the shipping and he responds hes not paying until I give him a comfirmation number from the post office and attempts to strong arm me over the phone.

Since when does the shipping get paid after shipped? I have nothing at stake here and did this guy a favor and tested all of his boards in my cab (for free) only to then risk getting stiffed for the shipping bill to boot? Am i out of line? Should I just shipp them?

Hold onto them until you get paid. Tell the guy that if he doesn't pay for them in x amount of time your keeping them. Your not a storage unit. Dude sounds shady, you do him a favor and he gets pissy with you.

And if he dosen't like it, he can spend the gas money to drive six hours down to you and pick them up himself, where you'll be greeting him with the handshake from a 12 gauge.

Yeah, he has to pay for shipping before you ship them... that's just common sense man. :) If he doesn't understand it then tell him the boards will be be boxed up there waiting for him to either pay for shipping or pick up in person.

And damn... I think I remember you talking about testing Berzerk boards when I was picking up the Star Castle and Armor Attack. Is this the operator friend that you get stuff from once in a while?

Screw that! Bottom line is that YOU did the dude a favor. Tell the guy, "Dude... I did you a favor testing these boards. You have two choices... (A) cough up the shipping charges at which time I will happily drop them off at the local post office or (B) come pick up your boardset in person thereby eliminating the need for shipping. Now, if you want to be a dick about it, I can be a dick and tell you that you have 1 week to determine what the fuck you want to do before I shit-can the boardset... so... do you want to be a dick?"

That's about how I'd deal with the situation.

I'll third the shotgun handshake...

Does UPS still do collect shipments? If so, ship it collect and tell the douche that it's on its way.

You are 100% correct in holding on to them Jason. The COD idea isn't bad either as long as there's no way for it to end up on you.

cheers

Ship them Fed Ex instead where you have tracking and insurance to 100 bucks. Spend an extra dollar or whatever it is with them to get the signature required. With this guy it will be worth it, even if it means coughing up a couple of your own bucks to cover it.

You get paid or else the boards are yours. This isn't friggin' Burger King. He's not going to have it his way! And you wonder why a lot of people don't do favors......

Tell him he's got 30 days to either pick them up or send you payment for shipping, and tell him he should be damn happy you didnt charge him for your services. After 30 days its considered abandoned property. If he gives you any grief after that, sounds like you need to talk to your "friend" who made the arrangements in the first place.

UPS does do collect shipments but I've only seen in with businesses that have UPS accounts. But why go out of your way any more than you have already?

He trusts you enough to have them and test them, but not to pay you first before shipping them? You are wise to be cautious.

Keep the guy's boards. F' em.

There is a lot of good advice here.(Though I wouldn't take the shotgun idea literally). :)

After 8 months the boards are already yours. Notify your arcade friend and see what he says.

The guy is lucky you don't also charge for storage after all this time.

I hope you never actually gave this guy you're address..by what you describe, he sounds like someone ready to go off. If I were you, I'd call him up (record the message in case he makes a threat), inform him you're giving the boards back to the middle man (guy you know) and tell him he can pick them up from him. That's how you received the boards in the first place, seems like the right way to give them back.

Apparently, you guys dont watch enough judge judy. There is not enough of a contract here for some of the things that you guys are saying. You cant tell the guy you are going to charge storage, because when he sent the boards to you, you did not say that you charge storage. You did the guy a favor, but it was that a favor, not something you can charge him for now. Also, with the way this guy sounds, i wouldnt even give them to your "arcade friend" becuase the owner would probably still say he didnt get them

Truthfully, the best and most ethical thing to do now would be send them COD, There are still places that you can do that, and make the COD amount your total cost involved, all shipping handling and the fee they charge you to do COD, and make that the amount so that you are not out anything. If he choses not to accept the package then they would come back to you and you got a set of berserk boards for the cost of shipping.

I do think its funny how many of the klov guys are saying to screw them, and such, which many are the same ones that would post saying completly opposite if they were the owner of the boards
