Judge Dredd Backbox woes! Where do all the wires go!?

Sorry for all the threads lately, but I just got my Judge Dredd into the house! We had to take off the backbox to get it in. I've got some pics, but it was late at night, in the dark, in the drizzling rain, so they're pretty wretched. All of the molex connectors were marked with sharpie to give you an idea where they went on the board before I got it, but I don't want to put too much trust in marks I didn't make. If anyone has pics of the head being disassembled/reassembled, or can take pics of theirs complete as-is, I would be very grateful. Someone else's pics shot in the daytime will be WAY more reliable than mine shot in the dark and the rain.

first things first, find the odd shaped plugs and reattach them first. If you check, even if theyre marked by someone else, 90% of the plugs will only go one place. Theyre made that way, if you look at the connectors each one will have 1 plug closed, match that to the connector on the board thats missing the same plug, and viola, move on to the next one. May seem like a daunting task, but once you get into it it goes pretty quickly

This is good advice, I'm going to tackle a chunk of it tonight armed with this info!!

Managed to be 100% sure about all but maybe a dozen connectors. Trying to figure out where the last ones go. Also, should there be a handful of unpopulated plugs on the board? Or are they all populated?

EDIT: Someone's going to need this in the future, so here's a pic I found that helps IMMENSELY.

I'm going to ask the obvious*, but do you have a manual? Are the dozen or so connectors left labeled?

* as in, I'm not trying to come off condescending...

Of course not. I saw a ton of connectors marked, so I assumed the rest of them were. Stupid idea. I do have the manual though.

That picture helped me find a few more.

Narrowed it down to these that I can't find, I realize the two white ones are marked, but there are no more marked connectors in the backbox:

Dear God. Some of the labeled ones were wrong. One of the three that actually were labeled, "J104" actually belongs in J105, J104 is left empty. Who knows what I could've broken... Time to go through this super thoroughly. Guess I shouldn't trust other people's work. The manual even says the color of the wires. Thank you, I've never had a pin that had its manual, so I'd no idea that I had such a perfect cheat sheet.

Most of the connectors should have been keyed, and I believe, at least on Arabian Nights, they are all keyed differently. Made it alot easier to get the odd connector to it's correct home.

Hope you can get it sorted out.

Chris

Some of them are keyed the same, but yes, that made it 1000x easier. I'm just going to double-check them all. Last thing I need to do is make a fully working machine non-working. Thanks to all of you for helping out!

If you need, I can take detailed pics of mine when I get home from work tonight. That way you can be sure. Let me know if you need me to do that. From memory I am almost sure there are a few that are unpopulated.

If you need specific pics I can take them tonight as I will be labelling all the JD connectors to remove the head and make it moving up my stairs much easier. I did the same thing for my Flintstones last night and there were a bunch of empty pin heads with no connectors. If you are not 100% sure don't turn the machine on as it could cause more harm then good.

Thanks to both of you :). The one and only connector I'm not 110% sure on after using the manual as a guide is the connector that goes onto the DMD, not the ribbon cable, but the other one. Ha! Got everything where it belongs. Now I just need to find the upper left flipper assembly somewhere. Can either of you check the part number on it for me? The manual says A-16976-L, but I've received e-mails from two different pin part suppliers that the part number doesn't exist and I must be crazy.

The DMD wires should go up to the DMD controller board in the upper right corner. I believe it should be at J604. However I discovered that mine has an extra board over the top of my DMD board that is not shown in the manual or the pic posted above. Not sure what it is. The ribbon cables go under to the regular board, but the other wires go to this "daughter" board. Weird. I know mine is an early (possibly prototype) machine, so it might be something related to that. But at either way, it should be on the bottom edge of that upper right board.

For the flipper assembly, try A-15205-L-2 instead. For some reason my manual shows both numbers.

Good luck!

Thanks! I got my DMD hooked up after realizing I somehow missed it in the manual.

My manual shows A-15205-L-2 for the bottom left flipper, and A-16976-L for the upper left. If yours shows both I'll just grab two of the A-15205-L-2's and call it a day.
