Hi all, my JROK multi-williams served up an unpleasantry today: I went to play it, and the screen was all white - I rebooted, tried to launch Robotron, and it announced that it was clearing the hi-score tables and resetting to factory settings. OK, fine, i will just have to put up newer & bigger scores.

But now Robotron won't coin up. All other 7 games work fine, but I hit 1-player from the menu to select Robotron, it selects the game, goes to regular attract mode, but hitting 1-player again does not add a player credit, and thus can't play the game.

Any clue? Many thanks in advance!

Start Robotron and enter the service mode which will run a diag on the game. See if that sheds any light on the matter.

The same thing just happened to me on Defender & Stargate when I was putting this other Multi-williams together. It should be that the Robtron lost its memory for the free play option. You have to select Robotron as you game to boot up to and then go into game options for Robotron and turn on Free Play for this game.

OK - I set boot to Robotron, but can't figure out how to "go into game options for Robotron", nor how to "enter the service mode" - how is that done?

And no, it doesn't coin up for 2P either.

Sorry for the newb-ness! :)

Boot in the game you want, and then the JAMMA "Service" switch is the "Advance" switch to get into the test and settings mode. The JAMMA "Test" switch is the auto-up/manual-down switch.

Step through the screens using "Service" until you get to the game options and turn freeplay on.

Hi again - thanks all for the replies, but i'm afraid I need it dumbed down even more.

Are you saying there is an actual physical dip switch on the JROK board that is for service mode?

here's my board, i don't see any dip switches.

Or is there some way to get to this service mode thru the menu?

^^^ Never feels more stupid than when trying to fix a video game :(

I suppose it matters what cabinet you have the board in. If it's in a Williams cabinet, there is a switch on the coin door. If you wired your own JAMMA harness, you should have wired up both a TEST and SERVICE switch...

Solder side, Pin R = Service Switch
Parts side, Pin 15 = Test Switch

See where these wires go and these will be the buttons you need to use (if wired)

I didn't build this machine, I bought it here on this site & am new to the whole thing..

The SERVICE/TEST (R/15) pins aren't wired up, they go to a connector that just dangles in mid-air.... I'm guessing i need to replicate a button for this switch and then "press" it while it boots up?

A "button" just enables the leads to "ground"... you could wire in a couple buttons or simply touch the leads to ground. I'd wire in a couple buttons... you're going to want to have a test / service switch handy for occasions like this.

Most games you will not need to press it while it boots, just press during attract mode and it will enter setup -- which is the case for Williams games.

You could simply "short" these wires to ground. This is just like pushing a button. Take the wire from R/15 strip the end and ground it to any ground wire coming from A,B,e,f,1,2,27, or 28 on the harness. These should be running all over the cabinet to ground other buttons, coin doors, lights, joystick switches, etc.
