So, did anyone already post about this or have we all been sleeping ? ;D

Look what Jrok (of multi-williams FPGA board fame) is cooking up now !

I quote from his site:
Building an 8088 based gameboard that supports Q*Bert / Mylstar hardware with an FPGA handling all video and assorted board functions.

Here's the current state of the project Mylstar System_FPGA ( MSF ) board work-in-progress. The prototype is based on a left-over W.S.FPGA board with an adapter to fix an 8088.

Developing the sound support for the MSF board, which will be emulated in an Atmel AVR part, most probably. The original soundboard is basically just a 6502 hooked up to an 8-bit DAC for making audio effects... oh with a Votrax speech IC for extra annoyance !

(Kinda funny, looks like he's hacking his own board ;) ).

I still pray there will be a Nintendo FPGA one day ;)

Based on KLOV info and Mike Doyle's multi kit I'd say these games should be able to run on this board, BUT I'M JUST GUESSING as I know very little about Gottlieb/Mylstar hardware (I also did not think about vertical/horizontal, controls set-up etc.):

Q*bert
FHMC Q*bert
Q*bert's cubes
Krull
Mad Planets
Insector
Reactor
Curveball
Mello Yellow Q*bert
7-11 Q*bert (prototype)
Tylz (prototype)

Good luck finding a stick that will go 45 degrees for Q*Bert and 90 degrees for all other non Q*Bert games...

Now I'm gunna have go go and look for a Q*Bert cab...damnit.

And people say the Multi-Williams CP is too cluttered, imagine Screw Loose, Mad Planets and Q*bert all on the same CP
Don't matter to me though I'm still in for one :D

but is there a way to get the knocker to work?

Good question ! Totally forgot about that. I actually have the right knocker on stock (once bought to add to my Mame cab but you know how that goes).

In theory it should be a breeze to have some pin switch a voltage somewhere on that board at the right time. The hardware could be easily built.

I dont think it's in mame.

It is in mame, the base hardware is the same as the other Mylstar games. Just the soundboard is radically different than the earlier games.

Two 6502's, 2 x AY-3-8193 sound chips, 1 x SP0250 speech generator and 1 x dual 8 bit DAC. It's total overkill ;) I'm working on this at the moment, although kinda slowly. It's the same as the pinball System 80 'B' soundboard and functionally the same as the Mach 3 soundboard.

The idea is to get as many of the games supported as possible. The base hardware is currently working and the version '1' soundboard is functional. Some of the titles are horizontal others are vertical and it's not going to rotate the screen in hardware.

I do plan on supporting the knocker for Q*bert and it'll have the cocktail mode for Q*bert's Qubes.
