I have the button mapping set to multi-Williams, have Player 1 no. 3 button connected to player 1 flap and player 1 No. 4 button connected to player 2 flap. I can't get anyone to flap. I try player 1 no 1 wire to player 1 flap, it flaps. The pinout shows the player 3 and 4 buttons are right for flap. What gives?

I have the same setup, but mine is set to Standard Button map and works fine.

I had this same problem. Let me see if I can figure out what I did. I think I did not set it to Multi-Williams.

Did you go in the test screen and try the different modes and see what buttons work and how?

Here is how mine is mapped. All connections are made to the jamma connector pins 22 - 26 except for p1b6 which is taken from the 6pin header on the pcb. I think your on the right track w/ your wiring. Just need to set it for standard button scheme.

that's how mine is as well. now, i've never gone through all the game menus, but is there a button test in there through the advance/test switches? that might help to eliminate the issues.

This is how mine is mapped also.

When I had the settings set to standard button mapping, I got player 1, button 1 to flap for player 1. That's fine, and makes sense to me, but then when I try to play Defender in this same set-up, Reverse won't be mapped right. If button 1 is player 1 flap in standard mode, then which button output is player 2 flap? I can't get ANY button output on the player 1 side to flap for player 2. In MW mode, it's supposed to be button 3 and 4, both on the 1 player/parts side of the edge connector that control flap for player 1 and 2 respectively. The way I understand it is that the only player 2/solder side controls that are used are the player 2 start and the 4 joystick outputs for player 2. Am I wrong?

Yep, I pushed buttons 3 and 4 in advance/switch test mode and they both show up as they should. Switch to game mode, and neither player can flap in MW mode.

Player 1 button 1 is the fire button not flap.
Player 1 button 3 is both player1 flap and reverse.
I rechecked my cp wiring and found I used the player 2 button 3 for the player 2 flap.
I had talked to James and he told me you could either use player 1 button 4 or player 2 button 3 for the player 2 flap.
So I have both the player 1 button 4 and player 2 button 3 going to the smartbomb button.

That's what I am telling you. Player 1 button 1 works for flap in my set up, button 3 does *nothing*. I know what it is *supposed* to do but it is not doing it.

As far as using the player 2 output for player 2 flap, how does that fuck with the defender games?

It sounds like you have it set to Multi instead of standard.
If not then try talking to James.
There might be a problem with the board.

So set it to standard, then use button 3 and 4 on the player 1 side? Why is there even a MW mode then if it doesn't work in a MW set-up? Me confused.

Yes set it to standard.I believe the MW mode is only for people using clay's MW cp harness pinout.
Only p1 buttons 1-3 are used.
Set it to standard and follow Jroks pinout, only use p2 button 3 for p2 flap.
Other than p2 joystick connections that is the only p2 connection I used.
This should fix the problem.
If not then there might be a board issue since mine is wired like this and works 100%.
If you are in standard mode and p1 button 1 is flapping then that is wrong,as you know, and leads me to think there might be a board issue or the wrong input is going to the button.
Double check the inputs from the harness.I have mistakenly switched them myself by mistake.

Will Do Mr. Kirk. My wires are color-coded and the edge connector is labeled. There really is no way to screw this up.

I figure you can hook up a jamma harness but mistakes happen to the best of us.
Hopefully you get this resolved.

I agree and I really hope it IS my mistake causing this. Otherwise my 3 year multi-Williams build will inch ever closer to being a 4 year multi-Williams build. I can verify that Robotron works perfectly in this machine. Holy shit, I hooked up both Joysticks, fired it up and nearly went insane with delight. Even my diagonal shots were spot on. Damn that game is fun.

So, doesn't matter what mode I set it to, MW or standard. Only player 1 button 1 and player 2 button 1 work for flap for player 1 and 2. Why does the jrok pinout say player 1 button 3 and 4 for both flaps? Neither button does anything in Joust, regardless of what mode it's set to. Now, when trying to play Defender, player 2's 'flap' button does nothing. Player 1 button 1 (flap) is Defender Fire. Isn't Player 2 flap supposed to be Reverse for Defender?

Just a guess, but it almost sounds like a defective board. Seems like, even though you set it to standard, it's not saving the setting and uses the Multi setting. Double check, your not set to cocktail mode?
