JR PAC-MAN Restoration

That is looking very nice...I have owned around 8 of these over the years..so its cool to see another one of them being saved..I have one I'm rebuilding now in brand new cab from some NOS parts and other original parts I've accumulated....I'm missing some of the hardware for the marquee box...(back hinges and metal bracket)

Stripped and sanded control panel. New overlay and cleaned up the control stick and buttons etc.

Attach and spin the wheels, sand down while spinning, start with 80 grit and work down. All depending on how beat up they are. Then using a blow tourch while it's spinning begin to melt the surface. Once it's pliable use a moderate sandpaper , I use a nail file to smooth out. Don't do it too long only takes a few swips to smooth completely because it's soft. That's it.

What did you do to make those brackets look so nice?

First thing I ever do is soak all metal in Eagle Brand Mag Wheel Cleaner. NOT Aluminum wheel cleaner but "Mag" it will remove all rust, you may have to soak it over night but it will eventually get it all. Now the metal may be pitted as it cannot replace whats been eaten up by rust but it will be rust free. Then I usually sand and wire wheel it until shinny. Sometimes control panels and brackets are so bad I have to do a skim coat of bondo etc. I also use a tumbler as well for small parts.

Check out my Alien Syndrome restore thread and there's a picture of it on doing the coin doors

That is super beautiful . Nice work !

Usually I completely strip the coin doors and redo them. But thisone was actually in very good condition. There was surface rust on the inside that I addressed and then lightly repainted with semi-flat black. Gonna clean and polish up the internals. Also finished installing most everything. Gonna wait on the monitor as I have to install the front kick plate art when it comes and I like to lay it down on it's back to get the best application. I struggle trying to do them upright against gravity etc. Got the back door cut and painted.

Just finishing up. Got tired of taking pictures and just wanted to get this project from Hell done. You know how some projects just fall together and go great, whereas others are a pain in the ass and every step of the way the game says, on NO, that's not gonna work out the way you wanted. This was that game. But after many hours of battle I think she turned out pretty good. Time for a vacation!!!
