Hi--

I was on here a few years ago with a different name, and found some help with my Galaga machine.

Right now I've got a Jr. Pac Man in the "original" Mappy cabinet that stopped working a while ago but I've got room now to drag it out again. The lights and monitor come on, but there's no sound or image from the game. I'm not very technically inclined, so the best I've been able to figure out is that there's voltage on the power supply board, and the small board that's above and behind the main board on the left (about 18 volts across some of the resistors there, if I remember). I can't get a reading anywhere on the main board, though.

Any suggestions about what to look for, or where I should be checking the voltage?

Thanks,

Brian

Coin up a credit if you haven't done so already and see if you can at least hear the game playing blind...that way you can know if its a board issue or low voltage on the monitor..you can have neck glow but still have low voltage...

You can hook up a basic switcher to this game if you need too..Arcadeshop also sells the kit so you don't have to hack the wiring at all..if it turns out to be the power supply...

I appreciate the replies... no, no coin or startup sounds of any sort. The monitor glows, the marquee and coin door lights come on. There are 2 transformers, seemingly one for the game, the other for the monitor and lights? I thought the one might be bad, but I don't think so now.

Here are some pics, pardon the dust but pretty clear. The board says "Jr Pac Man Conversion," the manual (or pamphlet) in back says "field conversion kit." Looking around the net, it seems there were different boards for factory and field conversions? Not clear on this, not sure if it matters. You can tell at first sight, I imagine.

thanks,

Brian

Measure for 5vdc across either of the 470uf caps located around the middle of the board. You should have 5.00-5.05 on either one. If the voltage is low you need to adjust it up on the power supply.
Pull the filter board and check the edge connector for burned grounds on the main pcb. The JrPacs dont usually do this like the pacs did but its worth checking.
If all else fails, PM me to discuss board repair.

No voltage across the 470uf caps... took the boards apart, no signs of damage, though one ground on the main board was slightly discolored (brown). Polished up the connections but no change.

Sending a PM soon, thanks,
Brian
