Hey guys - wanted to share some finished pics of my Big Blue refresh ...

When I first got it, it had been converted to a Sammy Sports Shooting game... the Control Panel had been hacked up so I had to scratch build a new... the cabinet itself was in decent shape but one of the top corners had been broken off so once repaired (bondo) i had to either paint (which does not stick well to laminate) or Vinyl wrap. I chose to wrap with 3M 1080 series "Satin Perfect Blue" ... this really close in color to original but is not an exact match as it has a faint metallic finish but I liked the premium look it gave the cabinet.

Someone had already gutted the Q-Sound Amp and Speakers from the cabinet so instead of using originals (which I had tracked down but was not impressed with quality) I decided to ad a pair of M-AUDIO AV-30 speakers and fabricated a frame to hold them in place.

This cabinet is running the Darksoft CPS Multi kit and the monitor has been changed out to a 27" Makvision tri-mode with appropriate bezel. All of the metal components have also been powder coated. Had to add a new Power Supply since the original decided to die while game was patiently waiting on me to finish it and since original light fixture was missing I went with a 24" LED fixture that worked out great.

Since I had to re-wrap with vinyl, I had to remove the original Q-Sound logo that was between the speakers... I could not find and NOS originals of this so I rebuild the sticker and had it printed. Same for the CAPCOM logo for the sides... I did find NOS originals but unfortunately they arrived damaged so I used those to scan/rebuild replacements. Links to download my source art files are further below. let me know if you have any questions.

The Marquee, CPO and from mirror CAPCOM decal were all NOS that I had managed to find over the last year... thank you to all the KLOV members who helped me with those.

The below link will take you to a directory where you can download the final print quality .TIF files and/or the original .PSDs if you wish to make any adjustments before printing.

For some reason the photo bucket previews of the files look a little off in color, not sure if that is a CMYK/RGB issue or what but the print files should be good to go, or again, the PSDs are there if you wish to make your own adjustments.

Thanks guys! we have really been enjoying this cab, especially with the Darksoft kit

Impeccable as always. Thanks for sharing your art files, I need the Capcom medallions for my Big Blue.

Very nice! Inspirational.

I also have a big blue to deconvert from a Sammy title...

EDIT: the above is NOT a big blue. It's a Leland Pig Out. There may be some similarities, but the profile is different. I suspect all were made by Dynamo. Would be interesting to place them side by side..!

how hard was it to wrap? how much did that cost? looks great!

Thanks for the feedback! --- the materials for wrap was about $250... I do have a little left over so I probably ordered more than I needed to. Unfortunately its not enough left to do a whole game or I would donate it to someone else who is restoring a BB.

the wrap itself is not hard at all, the 1080p series vinyl from 3M has the air release technology so it's near impossible to get bubbles in the install. Important thing is prep. make sure surfaces is completely clean and smooth, any little dirt specs or imperfections will show through the vinyl.

And when can you start on mine?

Seriously, that looks amazing. Giving me the boost I need to do mine. Its a little daunting, as it was converted to area 51 (gun holes, corner busted off, etc). Thanks for the pep talk!

Question: did you need the extended LCD ribbon cable to mount the lcd here?

I've got the multi on order and am considering mounting the lcd here or behind the coin box for easy access. Any regrets mounting it there? How did you mount it?

I did use the extended cable to place here. No issues since I do not latch the control panel... it's easy to get to and switch games. The 3D printed case has an integrated bracket on the back side so it is screwed to the cabinet.

Where did you get the vinyl? What size will I need for the same cabinet ?

I used to get all my vinyl from a company called AVS (auto vinyl solutions) but I don't think they are in business any longer. I don't recall how much I used but when I ordered I made sure I had to bough to screw up at least on side and still have enough to finish project. Thankfully I did not mess up and everything was perfect first time out.
