JPAC help. Shift function won't work.

I know this is not a MAME forum but I like it here and there are still enough mame guys.

I have a Mame cabinet here that I was trying to finish up tonight but I can't get the Shift key to work. P1 Start is the default key and I haven't changed anything. The problem is in winipac when I press P1Start it flashes and goes off. What is supposed to happen is it will wait until you release the button to activate the P1Start. In this case it flashes and then goes off so I can't do a shift function. When I press and hold 1 on the keyboard it stays lit??? I have no idea what is going on here.

Update: So messing around I can get it to work if I unplug the jamma harness and reset it. The Shift functionality seems to work. When I plug the jamma harness back in it fails so there must be a short somewhere. This time I reset the JPAC and I get 12 flashes which is weird because that means a problem with 2SW8 but that is a screw terminal connection and has nothing to do with the jamma connector. I am going to have to keep looking to see what I can come up with or where the short could be.

When I go to notepad and put it in test mode (Ctrl-Alt-P) I can hit each key and get it to do stuff. When I press t nothing happens. This is supposed to display stuck keys which supposedly I have?? I tried t and T, not sure if it matters. Either way it doesn't seem to do anything.

Not sure really, sounds like you may have P1 wired up wrong but Andy answers questions directly on byoac.

Thanks. I just gutted the whole cabinet and rewired it. Should have switched to an ipac at that point but I am saving it for another project I eventually want to do.
