If you had to choose between Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and JP Lost world, which would you pick?
MSF is better reviewed but JP:LW(What IS the abbreviation for this game?) is newer and has whitestar hardware which I'm familiar with.
I like the artwork better on MSF but what I'm reading about it's difficulty has me hesitating since I want my guests to enjoy it, PLUS it may do a short stint on location and I'd like to maximize the draw.

What do you think?
What would be the better machine for my gameroom/location?

I have had a JP:TLW (my best attempt at an abbreviation) for three years now. I have enjoyed it, though keep in mind I am not a seasoned pin guy. I have read many think it is a tough game to get to San Diego, and I agree. It also has a great theme for kids. At least all of the kids that have played mine really like it, with the dinosaur that pops out of the egg and the shaker sub.

I would say that it is a good machine, if you can get it at a good price.

All of that said, after three years I do think it is time for me to move on.

I have never played MSF, so I can't compare.

Thanks for the response!

Anyone else? the money is pretty much a wash once I factor in the work required on each machine so it's really down to play I guess.

I think the the Frankenstien pin has a really expensive dmd so if you are looking at that one make sure that is is good, a replacement one is around $400 i think. I have not played either one so no good advice which one is better. I would try to play them both if you havent already and make your own opinion. Hope this helps a little.

i've played JP:LW a good bit and really enjoy it. i could see it sticking around a gameroom for a while.....definitely think it will draw in non-pinheads, which appears to be what you're looking for.

never played MSF....sorry.

I've played Lost World a good bit and find it to be "just okay" at best. It's not horrible, but not anything special either. (If you want a Jurassic Park-themed pin, the original pin is LOADS better.)

Frankenstein was the second pin I added to my collection, and I still have zero desire in parting with it. From the artwork, to the music, to the gameplay, I think the machine is just fantastic. Sure, it can be a bit tough, but that not only helps your advancement as a player, but the machine's longevity as well. Highly recommended machine, I say.

I've had a JP:LW for many years (OK, since NIB). Haven't played MSF in a long time, so no direct comparison here.

JPLW is the ^fastest^ pin I've ever played. (Mine is clean!) It's a little-known "below-the-radar" game, more of an 'expert's' game. Also great for tournaments. It has a nice array of shots in an AFM-esque layout (minus the big toy to hit). The game basically has a multiball (3 separate lanes to lock balls) and 5 challenging modes that have to be started and then finished. If you fail to finish a mode then it's a it harder to start and/or finish next time. Interestingly, there is not a SINGLE shot that is common to finishing any 2 modes--you have to be able to hit every shot on the pf! Finish all 5 modes and you get the San Diego Wizard mode. (Has never been reached on my game; 4 modes have been completed several times, on medium difficulty and 3-ball).

Seasoned pin players who stop by really like JPLW and wind up playing it for quite a while. It's not very deep, but it has a nice set of modes. (The separate video mode is COMPLETELY lame, tho!) Scoring is low and VERY balanced. (No 100M jackpots here.) A really good score is around 20M. Two other pluses for this game: It has 6-player scoring (and adds scores for 1&3 and 2&4 in a 4-player game for team competition), and you can play Wizard mode (high difficulty) or tournament mode just by holding the L or R flipper button when starting the game.

(P.S. I've also played the original JP a lot back in the day, and actually prefer the LW sequel.)
