I picked up a stand up Lost World Jurrasic park, so I need some help and info on it.

>When I use the one 1p gun, it works, but I have to be almost up on the screen for it to work, I can't stand back a little or be any distance away from the screen for the gun to work. But if I am in close a few inches from the screen, it works.
Any ideas on the distance problem?

> The other gun is jittery and all over the place. Now I read on the site about the ir sensors around the monitor, I checked them out and both leds are on, cleaned the monitor, the mirror, the screen, the ir sensors, etc... Still have the same problem.
Now, dont know if this is conjuction with the other gun not working away from the screen or not.
But I am up for ideas on either problem
Thanks

1) Go into test mode and recalibrate both guns. Then see how they work. Hopefully that is all that's wrong but usually there is more to it.

2) If you have the same problems after calibrating the guns, try switching the guns with each other and see if they have the same problem after being switched. You can do this by switching the gun connections at the gun board with the game off.

3) If #2 is yes, they have the same problems after switching them, I'd bet the jittery gun probably has a short in the hose and it needs to be replaced. This is very very common. I believe Betson is the best source for this hose. Sometimes people sell them on Ebay from machines that are parted out but I wouldn't buy a used one - you have no idea what you are getting or how long it will last. The replacement hose has a metal housing that is slightly larger than the hole at the bottom of the gun, in order to prevent future shorting, so you have to gently sand the gun hole a bit to get it to fit properly.

4) The other gun that has to be up to the screen to work may also have a hose short but it may also be the sensor inside the tip of the gun. A way to check this is to switch the sensor with the other gun, either now, or after you have fixed the other gun by getting a replacement hose.

5) You may want to check to see if you have the little board that the guns plug into before connecting to the gun board inside the cabinet. A common problem was shorts in the guns shorting out the gun board, and the little board is used to prevent that. I forget what it's called but I would defintely get one.

6) Also check the power supply to make sure it is putting out proper voltages. This power supply is expensive to replace if bought from Sega, but I had someone make one for me for much less and it was plug and play.

7) You can also ask Ken Westerfield about your issues. Very helpful dude:

Good luck, that game rocks, one of the best gun games ever.

Thanks for the info. Do you know off the top of your head, so I can rule it out, if the IR sensors are working properly besides the 2 leds lite? As long as theres 2, then there ok?

It's been a while but I think they should be okay.

This is typically not a cheap game to repair, so I would probably try fixing one gun at a time.

You mentioned Betson for the cables, I dont know who they are, do you have a link to them? Also, do you know will any of the house of dead games work in this game/cabinet? I thought I read somewhere it will, but not sure

Thanks

Does anyone know if any hoses for the guns will work on this game, say from virual cop, etc...Is there a way to find if they will work?

I have no idea if HOD II will work in that cabinet. I thought I recalled a thread about how HOD II would not be easy to get working in a JP LW cabinet, if at all. If you search old threads here there are several about repairing JP LW which discuss many common issues.

Apparently HOD I will work in a VC2 cabinet with minor effort. It is also possible to convert the gun system in JP LW and HOD II to the much simpler and cheaper system used in VC2. Again, Ken knows how to do this, I do not. It involves having a VC2 gun board and some modifications to wiring in JP LW and HOD II.

I've heard of people putting new wires in the gun hoses instead of replacing them. If you search old threads here it's been mentioned.

As you asked, here is the page from Happ re: gun hose and adapter for Sega gun games. You need the adapter to make it plug and play. It's #8 and #9.

I checked Betson and couldn't find it. I thought I got it from Betson but it could have been Happ. But in any event those are the two items to get if you are replacing the hoses. Not cheap when you are talking two guns....

Give Ken a call before you do anything, tell him what's wrong with the game. This is not a cheap game to repair - parts can be ghastly expensive. I had to replace the power supply, gun hoses and a few monitor sensors. I checked parts prices today for this game and they are higher than ever. Perhaps due to scarcity of parts.

Good luck on the repair...

This is one way to test the IR sensors around the screen. Use a mobile phone with a camera and and set it to take pictures. Bring the mobile camera lens close to the sensor and you will see the IR glowing on your mobile's screen. Usually you can see the faulty sensor that is not glowing or glowing dimly. If the gun lens (the dark one in front of the gun is badly scratched) it will also shoot all over the place. The cables also gives a lot of problems.

Sensor

DON´T TRY TO CLEAN THE MIRRORED SURFACE OF THE GUN SENSOR! If you dissasembly the front side of the gun sensor, it has a black plastic frame, if you pull this out, you´ll find the four part mirrored surface that points to the screen, this is what receive the ir transmission of the mask. I f you try to clean it up with a cloth, you´ll open the invisible connection between the panel and the pcb that is in each corner. These are 4 very small wires that are only seen with a magnifier or a microscope. If this happens you´ll need to spend arround $200 for a new sensor. If you don´t take off the plastic frame, wires are hidden and secure so you can clean the visible part of the panel with a swab.
