Joysticks with micro switches - plays like crap or is this normal?

What's the deal with these things? Seems like any 8 way game I have microswitch sticks on is clunky and going diagonal is a hit and miss proposition. Is that normal? Should I replace them with leaf switch sticks?

sounds like an adjustment issue with the actuator?

leaf wicos are always "better" for things like robotron....BUT with a change in the finesse you can do equally well. just feels different.

Show us the stick and the game. Happ Supers are pretty decent overall sticks, I hate their other two major styles (competition and ultimate).

I can relate, kind of. I just rebuilt my QBert stick with new rubber pieces, and I still hate it. Way too hard to use, bothers my wife's hands.

I've only got 8-way sticks on my Vs. Unistystem and they work just fine.

Q*bert sticks... where a used well worn rubber is much better than a new, unused one !!

EVERYONE complains about it. I said but it's new unused, fresh from factory. It's waaay too stiff and too much pressure to move a very short distance. Guess everyone would rather have a sloppy light spring 8 way Happ in it instead.

I replaced the original Crazy Climber joysticks on my game with microswitched Sanwa's. It plays even better then new. Very responsive. However, CC is a 'finesse' game.

Still after all these years, I still cant get past the fourth building though.

Sanwa's are the only micro's I will use.

Agreed. I have a JLW in my Jr. Pac-Man and it's just perfecto for the game. I can get way farther into the game than I could imagine. Paradise's 20g switches are just aaahhh.

I'm a fan of leaves.. Actually only own games with leaf sticks, so that helps..
Wico micros aren't terrible, but if you can swap them out.. Do it!

No love for optical switches?

I like the Happ optical stick for some games, but the thread isn't about your favorite stick. Leafs are good for some games and suck hard for others. Same goes with other types of sticks. And just because it is a leaf or micro stick doesn't mean it is a good stick or bad stick, there were crappy leafs and there are crappy micro sticks.

I am actually quite a fan of the microswitch wicos. Same basic feel but really precise.

happ ultimate for modern games and 80s wico leaf sticks for the classics, those are my preferences.

Speaking of dk...just got my dk together with a new repro panel from mikes with repro Nintendo joystick....joystick sticks when I try and go left sometimes....bugging the hell outs me...already died numerous times when I want to stop...it keeps going....or messes me up. Any way to fix? Don't mean to jack the thread...but we are discussing crappy joysticks...:/
