JOYSTICKS movie question - why are so many marquee lamps out?

There are a ton of games in the Joysticks arcade movie whose marquees are not lit up. Why is that? Was it done on purpose for lighting during the filming? Or were they trying to mimic a 'real' arcade that was poorly maintained? I just found it odd.

One example...........

My guess is that they probably didn't come out well on film when backlit, maybe they created "hotspots" because of the way the artwork was or the types of lamps behind them.

God, the lighting in that movie (or the 1980's video transfer) just sucks. I hate watching it and having to strain to see what the hell is going on in the arcade half the time. The movie would be so much cooler if it were digitally restored.

Wow,it's dark in there. You think maybe it had something to do with copyright permission IE:company didn't want them using their game on film? I dunno just a wild guess as I can't come up with anything else lol. Also I keep forgetting to ask..How do I get a copy of this movie as I have'nt seen it yet?

Yeah I was wondering about that, also the copyright thing that another mentioned.

I totally hear ya dude. I am half tempted to see if I can score an actual VHS copy to see if it's just as bad.

Mine was donated to me by a dedicated KLOVer in the area. Put a post out in the wanted section and I'm sure someone here can hook you up. I've never done a DVD copy before so I'm no help with this. :(

The one place I REALLY noticed it was in the row with the priest/monk dude and the 3 stooges guy. Like every light is out in that row.

Search the threads, someone once posted a link from somewhere where you could just download it for free right from the website. I downloaded it but made it maybe 15 minutes into the movie, it looked pretty aweful and the games I can just see in MAME if I want to.

There is one on the P Bay. Just type in "joysticks" and it is the only result. Downloading at about 90K- 130K, health is 100%. ETA 1 hour 49 minutes.

Joysticks @ CAX 2010.....

....My first year going to CAX 2010, I got lucky and picked up one of the last few DVDs they had left :)

Even got both the Producer Greydon Clark and character 'Dorfus' Jim Greenleaf to autograph them!!

Cover, notice it was 'Digitally Remastered' ;):
