Joystick mounting

What control panel is it? If you have to drill thru, then carriage bolts are your best bet....

Building my own for a Multi-Williams machine. 5/8" MDF. I like the idea of t-nuts so I won't see anything on top, but it's only 5/8" thick. I'm probably only going to have at the most an 1/8" buffer zone before the artwork. If I rebuild the CPO with 3/4" then I have to change the Bezel depth, etc.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

You could do what they did in Joust and other games with wooden control panels. They drilled the bolts through the top, but countersunk them flush with the wood (you could even bondo over the tops and sand them smooth so they can't be felt). Some cabs also route out the space for the joystick so that it sits closer to the top.

Of course, you could always buy one of these from Arcadeshop:

I used t nuts and then put 1/8" lexan over them and put the overlay on top of the lexan after I bondoed over the t nuts and the bolts I used to mount the lexan.
I opted to use bolts and adhesive to hold the lexan in place.
You would have to rout the wood down to accommodate the lexan so it is flush if the cp is one with a bend like Joust type cps.
If not then it would just be 1/8" thicker.
Here is pics of my modified Joust cp.
