Picked up a rough joust recently that had most of the original wiring and monitor but has been converted to an odd ball Kung fu game, but since the wiring was there I figured I would go for it and do an as original restore as I could.
So here goes...

Not sure why the pics are coming out rotated.
The top and front mdf was swollen so they had to go,I replaced with 3/4 ply.

I have read about those that have had nightmares getting their Williams cabs stenciled.

Might be good to document what you used for paints, equipment, and process, and any difficulties (peeling, bubbling, etc) you ran into.

I Made sure to spray the cab with primer,i used an automotive filler primer from a can.
And Rustoleum spray cans for the colors.
The biggest thing that helped with the stencils were instead of removing the backing i trimmed around the cutouts and only removed that part.
So as to have as little sticky stencil touching the paint underneath as possible.
And lightly sanded the area the stencil left open for the paint to adhere to th layer underneath.
It worked really well.
The only issue with it now is that its a gloss finish but i think im gonna spray the whole thing with satin clear to get the finish i want.
I stenciled a Cyclone pinball a little while back and learned how to do it the hard way.

All this info is very helpful to me as I am about to take on a similar task!

Robo-Joust! :D (Your cabinet is a factory conversion from a leftover Robotron cabinet, note the front the cabinet compared to the one posted above, no "curve"/dip)

I didn't see any robotron paint as I removed all the side art.
Only joust.
But after looking at some robotrons online you may be right.

Any chance you can post where you got the stencils and the actual paint products you used? I bought my Joust in 1998 and it needs the stencils to be redone!

thanks

I got the stencils from gamestencils.com
The paint for the most part is rustoleum products ,primer and paint.
I used spray cans,I wanted the cabinet as smooth as possible.
I started work on the power brick and making hopefully my last parts order.

Gamestencils.com has the colors listed if you are gonna use latex.
I used spray cans to get a smoother finish, the only color I can remember is the kona brown.
I can list the others after I get back home.

Amazing job. I want to stencil a ms Pac I have but never did stencil before and am afraid I'll screw it up. Yours looks beautiful absolutely amazing

Thanks, yeah it is a little scary but this is the first time I cut out only the parts that get paint with about 1/4 inch of the sticky showing so as to not peel any of the previous paint underneath and it worked out good.

Just Finished The Matte Clear Over The Gloss Paint.
Looks Alot Better IMOP, First Pic Is Gloss Second Is With Clear.
