I just started working on a project Joust and I was able to get it to boot up, but it will not accept a credit to play the game, also the advance switches have been removed.

1. How do I get a Joust in Freeplay mode? the manual mentioned setting #9?

2. Do I need the advance switches to get it into freeplay mode?

Thanks Kevin

You need to press the advance switch to move to the bookkeeping page and then again to move to the settings page and then to register the settings.

It also helps to have the UP/Down button to swtich between the diagnostic and the bookkeeping pages when the advance button is first pressed.

If you do not have a copy of the schematics, you can get a PDF scan at arcarc.xmission.com.

You will find the information on how to wire up the coin door in the cabinet wiring diagram in the Joust schematics.

Based on the fact that you are not seeing coin switch presses, it is possible that the door wiring was hacked or is simply not connected to the ROM card coin door headers.

Thanks Ken, a few wires have been cut on the front door and all 3 buttons are missing in the door.

My battery holder has some acid damage, should I replace it with a original williams holder or is there a better solution out there? thanks Kevin
