Have a Joust upright. Boots fine. I can add credits, but can not start a game.

Any thoughts.

Thanks

Can you start a 2 player game ? Or are both 1 player and 2 player start buttons not working ?

Things to check is the wiring from the buttons down through the harness to the widget board (smallest of the game circuit boards). Possibly cracked solder joints on the headers on the widget board.

Maybe all controls are out, in which case, check the ground from the control panel wiring to the widget board, as a break in that actually will take out all of the controls.

go into test mode, press the middle black button in. then press Advance. release the middle black button. keep pressing Advance until you reach the input test. press any of the buttons or move the joysticks, do any of them register? if only half of them respond, go around to the back of the game now -- wiggle the small ribbon cable around. do you hear the game making bloop sounds like it's registering inputs?

if so, the ribbon cable is bad. it requires soldering to replace. I can replace it for you. PM me if you need further help.

good luck

Cwilbar - Player 2 does not start a game either.

Mecha - In test mode none of the buttons of joysticks register. coin slots do.

will check ground to widget tonight.

any other thoughts while I am hunting for ground issue?

Thanks, Troy

your coin door wiring hooks to the rom board instead. so your input board isn't working. usually when the ribbons are bad they'll throw a bunch of phantom switches. if you have nothing I would start metering the black ground wire to the grounds on the control panel. if it's open then you'll know you need to look at wiring.

I does seem to be the Ribbon cable.

Thanks again for the responses.
