My Joust machine went out yesterday, at first it had a message on the screen telling me to open the door and reset. By the time I got the keys the screen was blank.

The LEDS that indicate power, 3 and two are on, 1 is not. If I unplug the RJ2 power output cable, they all come on again.

The LED on the rom board does not come on at all.

What else can I test and what would cause the leds on the power board to go off when the power output is unplugged?

I get nothing on the monitor so I can't get into diagnostics. There is power to the monitor and sound board.

Just re-read your original post. If you unplug 4J2 and all of the LED's light up, your regulator IC is blown.

I'm sorry, I'm pretty new to this.. what is a regulator IC?

Sorry for being dumb, but a person has to learn I guess, right? :)

You could, but that price is sky high and it is best to rebuild the whole power supply. Bob Roberts sells a rebuild kit that contains almost everything that you need for roughly $10 IIRC

Yeah I see that on his site. Thanks a lot for the advice, I never could have figured this out on my own.

I will order tomorrow.

I think Dave was being modest. Both he and I rebuild power supplies as well as handing out advice. If you are not handy with a soldering iron and familiar with some level of hardware debugging, you may want to contact one of us about rebuilding it for you rather than trying to do it yourself.
