Joust Poster Questions - Real, Repro, Value????

I forget what a bunch of penny pinchers this crowd is.

$99 is only about twice the price it was 11 years ago. That's not really that bad. Things cost more than they used to.

And hey...you also probably won't have to leave it in your garage to air out for a couple months because it reeks so badly of cigarette smoke...

Thanks for all the replies. I want to be totally honest if I ever sell it. It may just hang on my garage wall.

Sir, I can buy repro movie posters for under $20 online all day long. $100 for a repro Joust poster is insanity. It has nothing to do with being a cheap ass.
big difference when you pay someone in china to run off 1000 and when your selling 10 and printing them locally. your time has to have some value and printing costs are much higher.

Even if you have the file and went to kinkos and had them print it, the results will be poor. I think it was $45-$50 like 10 years ago(plus $20-$25 to scan it). I tried to scan and print a battlezone one for a friend. the image needs to be prepared for it to come out 1/2 decent. I assume to do a proper job it needs to be layered and screen printed. all that adds to cost.

just be grateful you can buy one. They are rare posters and someone was generous enough to lend it to be scanned. someone went thru a fixed them to be printed. I had already framed most of mine. those that I had not (or I had duplicates of) I lent to be scanned.

All known originals including the one Joe used to make repros have no white borders, so this is most likely a repro.

probably due to the odd size of the poster. adding precise cutting would be an added cost and lead to mistakes.

I think you mean, the difference is someone is trying to make $90 per print rather than $10 per print.

really?? I am guessing, but your per unit print cost when you order 1000 would maybe be like $4-$5. Where as when you print 1, cost is probably $10-15. Thats not accounting for setup costs, equipment costs, and labor. add in importing costs(no one in the usa will do it that cheap) and shipping materials. Plus dont forget tarrifs. And thats not even accounting for stealing someone image and selling it.

If you think you could make money printing them as selling them for $10, go for it!!! Its a free market, If you think its a money making business, try putting up a site and undercut them at $50. there is a real simple solution to this, either jump in and do better or dont buy one. or wait and spend $$$ on an original.

and like I said, if you dont know what your doing, the print will be below average. good luck with all the complaints and people wanting refunds..

I paid a C-note for this one.

Thanks,

If its original, thats a great price. I paid more than that for several of mine. Great poster, and if your happy, thats all that matters. sometimes you get lucky. I think stephen beal was selling his peronal framed space duel at cax like 6 years ago for a really good price. pretty sure it sold.

I saw 2 original red barron posters up on ebay recently and pointed my buddy mike to them. they were a great deal and he says in really good shape and better than described. So luck is a factor. I got my joust poster I think for free. I think it was part of a operator buy out and it was shoved in a filing cabinet and bit crushed. but that was like 30+ years ago..

I reached out to Pinball Inc regarding the posters they were selling and they said "It was purchased directly from Python in 2014 just months before he passed away. We purchased the last 10 he had". Seems like we may never know where they came from.

Right. In 10 years they haven't sold those 10? Seems more likely that 10 just keep reappearing as needed.

$100 for a repro poster is wild bruh.
It looks framed and matted but the description doesn't describe it as such. A decent frame and matte and the $99 is less crazy.

I bought one from Pinball Inc. I wouldn't really call it a poster. It's some sort of print on a thicker matte paper. Add a $20 frame from Michael's and it looks pretty cool.

One good thing about printing on that thicker paper, less wrinkles behind the frame I would think!

Nice posters and I'd like one, but I'm not willing to pay > $100 for one. To each their own, I suppose.
