joust optical joysticks

That is a very late production number. I'll have to check but I think I have Bubbles parts lower than that.

I think your theory was correct, and the information on KLOV was incorrect. It looks like these came out on the later side of Joust Production. This cab, boards, monitor, harness look 100% original, except maybe the Tmold???? Not sure on that.

Got the Joust working tonight. These joysticks are way better than the leafs!! WOW!!

So now I have to make a decision. I got 2 joust machines working tonight. Im only keeping one. I was going to keep the other cabinet since its nicer, but now I know Im keeping the Optical Sticks, cant just switch control panels, the harness is different. Plus all the serial numbers match.

How important are serial numbers? Monitor, boards, power brick, cabinet all have the same number. I was thinking about putting everything in the nicer cabinet, but the other cab has a different serial number.

Both jousts work, I basically want the insides of one, and the cabinet of the other. Not sure how important serial numbers are. it is a rare cabinet.

Oh note to yellowdog. The rom set is solid green?

Joust

I have had several Jousts but only one with optical sticks. It was a high production number compared to the others. I sold it to KLOVer Lukenatme. He still has it. I also have a Motorace USA. It has the same stick as the optical Joust, just with a red ball top to confirm.

As I recall, all you don't need to do anything different. If you check the wiring diagram there is already a +5V wire from the power supply to the 15 pin connector (7P1/7J1) to the control panel.

You should be able to just swap the control panels and be good on both cabinets. Just make sure the older cabinet has the gray wire going to pin 15 of 7P1 from pin 15 of 4J2 (15 pin power supply connector).

As far as the color of the labels goes, it is more important what the part numbers are. You should be able to match up the part numbers in the chart and determine the version of the ROMS.

I would keep the cabinet with the matching serial numbers. How bad is the cab? A Joust stencil kit should be fairly easy to apply/paint, and then you'll have a beautiful cab with matching numbers AND rare(?) optical sticks. I just think it's kinda cool that this cab has survived for the past 25+ years without having the monitor or some other part swapped out.
