I am restoring a joust cabinet and converting it to a multi Williams using jrok's board. I have the CP and CPO finished with all buttons and joysticks. Going to repaint and use stencils for a joust 2 color scheme.

The monitor is having some problems. I am new to the hobby, so I am not quite sure what the problem is. Have read some articles concerning Williams cabinets, but haven't found any solutions.

When I turn on the cabinet the monitor takes about 10 minutes or longer to come into focus. Did not have this problem when I first bought it. Sometimes later the screen will start to blur a little and sometimes it will just go crazy and show like a rug pattern.

I know a cap kit would be the first thing to do......but just not convinced this is the problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The monitor is a Rauland 19VMBP22........which is the Wells 4600 I believe. The previous owner said the capacitors have been replaced.

You may have a few issues.. One being your power supply prolly needs a rebuild.. Or you can go with a modern ps with adapter.

Second, if it's taking a while to warm up, that's usually caps.. But you mentioned it's been capped.. So I'd replace the tube, as it's original and probably very burned in. As you can see "Joust" when the game is off. Doubt you need a new flyback, as 4600 flybacks last forever.. But if it's going out of focus or getting darker or lighter once warmed up.. Then a new fly is needed.

Double check and look at all the caps on the chassis. Make sure they look new, or are not bulging.. I've had people tell me its been capped.. But then under inspection only one or two were replaced.

Plenty of info out there on how to rebuild a monitor and swap tubes..

Thanks for the reply..............I found out from the previous owner that he replaced the flyback too. All the caps look good and it looks like all have been replaced. Will look into the tube being replaced. The PS is new also.
