I need to adjust the width of the image on my joust monitor. My image is too wide by about an inch. The monitor is a toshiba and the sticker by the adjustment controls says Hantarex. There are adjustments for vert and horizontal freq. and shift. I assume freq is width and shift is position. Correct? Also do I make the adjustments with the machine on? Or trial and error turning off each time?
Thanks

Pictures please.

The horizontal width of your monitor's image is usually adjusted not by a knob near the other ones on the back, but rather by turning the ferrite slug inside the horizontal width coil.

Take a picture of your monitor's circuit board and I'll circle the part you need to work with.

Here's what you need to adjust.

You should use a plastic tool found in a 'TV alignment tool kit,' but in a pinch you can use an allen wrench. Just be sure to be VERY GENTLE with the allen wrench because you're turning a ferrite slug inside that coil, and it's very brittle. If it breaks, you're hosed and will need to buy a new slug or new coil, depending on the damage you do.

If you go the allen wrench route, be sure to make your adjustments when the monitor is OFF. If you put a metal wrench in there when it's powered, it will heat up and burn you very quickly.

Good luck!

Using the adjuster I am able to make a slight adjustment in the direction I need but it feels like it bottoms out(I didn't want to force it). It does move freely though as I was able to move it in the other direction quite a bit.
It's a small slotted screw, probably not the original monitor.
I suppose I am at the point I would have to replace a part to get it to fit? Thanks
