For anyone interested in watching some expert Joust play, John "The Machine" McAllister is doing another marathon attempt, this time it's Joust. The record is 107 million and reportedly took 67.5 hours to complete. Supposedly the guy who did it blasted himself in the face with freon to stay awake  Anyway, if anyone can beat it, it's John :) His stream is over at justin.tv:

Just a little more info. He's already rolled the game once at 10 million, and just hit 1 million (for a total of 11 million) as I type this.

This is crazy.
I've taken an interest in Joust as of late and am still absolutely terrible at it.

He makes it look extremely easy even on the these high waves.
I wish him the best of luck. I'm not even sure I could stay awake that long, let alone doing the same stuff over and over.

John has experience with this. His first marathon was Star Castle at 36 hours. Then came Asteroids at nearly 58 hours. At the pace he is scoring on Joust it should take him about the same amount of time as Asteroids.

wow, that is just amazing to watch. interesting how he employs the stay on the very bottom trick when possible. that's usually what i do to keep from dying, even though i can't make it very high in joust.

Barry, he's at my place.

He likes to go up top because the scoring rate is faster that way, but it's also riskier and he dies more often. I recommended earlier that he stay at the bottom on the stage that gives him the most trouble and go up top on the others. That'll help him build up his extra men.

Wow .. nuts.. how many lives has he built up?

Around 65 at the moment. He had over 100 a few hours ago, then took a break, and we worked on situating the web cam better so the top of the screen wasn't cut off. He's been trying to build them back up.

So does joust get harder after the waves wrap back to zero or its
the same game play over?

I gotta get to bed but I wish him luck and will check back tomorrow night.

Makes me want to get my Joust CT together even more now. Getting so close now basically have to wait until paint dries before I can put it all back together. Still have a few more coats on the front and back of coin doors that I remade and I have to paint the hinge still.

Stops getting harder somewhere around wave 110 and approximately 2 million points. After that it basically cycles the same 10 waves over and over again. When the wave counter reaches 99 it then rolls back to 0 again, but the game play doesn't change after the first 110 waves or so.

What time did he start?

I'm not sure why anyone would do one of these crazy endurance attempts....but I'm glad people still do. Fun to watch.
