OK, IdahoFarmer just called me. Evidently his JOUST went from working to non-working with a move. It "HAS" to be running tonight and has asked me to come by to take a look. He says it plays blind, no video. He says the monitor does come on.

I said I'd be happy to come by to take a look but I'd never worked on a Williams boardset before.

Can anyone give me a few pointers of what to look for in this situation? Is there a fuse somewhere that would affect just the video signal? Is there a separate video board on Joust that I should concentrate on? If there is, would said video board be swappable with any other Williams game, etc?

IF the monitor is working and he is hearing the game, I'd say the video cable is off. Never heard of a Williams boardset putting out no video at all if it boots.

Evidently Hatrick was able to drop by and get it up... IdahoFarmer wasn't 100% sure what the issue was but thought it may have been a fuse... I'm sure brother Hatrick can elaborate.

+1

Especially after a move. There is a few connectors that probably worked loose and just need to be connected back.

What is the big emergency though?

If it is a WG4600, make sure the video boards are seated correctly. They can come loose in a move.

The only fuse that would give those symptoms (playing blind, no video) would be the fuse in the monitor.

Most likely the video cable connectors have a little corrosion and reseating them should fix it.

The big emergency was that Lon was waiting for the machine to roll the score and the Channel 7 News team was on their way to do a segment on it.

Hatrick got it up and running before I got off work.

The board wasn't getting +5. I went there straight from work, so I didn't have any diagnostic tools, and couldn't dig too deep. I found a fuse on the power supply that looked suspicous, and when removing it, I noticed the fuse clips were really loose. I tightened up the fuse clips and replaced the blown fuse and the game fired up.
The power supply likely needs a rebuild, but I didn't have time to do it then, so I had to hope that would hold out.
There's nothing quite like having to fix a game with no tools when the news crew and the Joust world record holder are on thier way. No pressure!
