Joust dilemma.... if one of the enemies is caught by the lava troll and is struggling to break free, is it bad form to just land right on them resulting in an easy kill ?

It seems to lack chivalry or at least be a violation of the Geneva convention on jousting....

I doubt that same enemy would show any mercy if the roles were reversed.
Verdict: Acceptable.

War is Hell.

While waiting for said enemy to free himself for more honest combat would be the chivalrous thing to do, it may also lead to the emergence of the dreaded pterodactyl, thus threatening you life even more...

James, speaking of Joust- I have your board and I was playing a few games the other night and at about Stage 13, only 2 enemies would come out. It happened for about 3 straight boards. Then, the next stage- it seemed that all of the enemies of the prior stages that didn't appear, ended up on the screen. There was like 25 enemies on the screen at the same time. Also, the platforms stayed the same, never changing for about 8 stages. Is this a known Joust bug or just my board?

Sorry to derail a fun thread :)

at the higher waves you'd be hard pressed to take out that enemy held by the troll. he'd either be pulled down or you'd be grabbed next in your attempt after taking him out. or your attempt would throw off the pace of the generating blue enemy as they drop down from the platforms.

a fast glide down into the enemy that bounces you away fast is preferred.

This. When I kill a knight held by the lava troll I usually fly up to the top first just to come down on him harder. Mainly because it's fun, but also as the poster indicates, it bounces you away sharply - safe from being grabbed yourself.

Of course if the older chip is being used you might want to kill a few million points worth of pterodactyls first.

The original post reminds me of a site I must have run across over ten years ago suggesting "gentleman's rules" for several games:

Rules for Galaxian, for example: "The gentleman shall not seek the comfort of defenceless opposition. To this end, only enemies engaged in active attack should themselves be subject to Fire. To ensure Compliance, gentlemen shall be judged on their score at the beginning of the second Stage. Regardless of score, failure to reach the second Stage shall result in Disqualification."

IF they did not come after me when I was getting pulled down by the lava, then I can see how they might have reason to object, but since it is kill or be killed, fuck 'em I say.

Agreed, it's payback for all those times they killed my player :( "Trapped eh ? CATCH THIS ")

Hell, no! I would certainly go for the kill.

I look at it as a mercy kill. You're doing him a favor. No one wants to be eaten by the lava troll...

No mercy...lol
Half a billion points ago I too pondered such things. But alas I have been killed by the ill conceived notion of FairPlay on the part of the enemy.

I never thought of it as bad form at all. But it is often the loss of points for the egg! :D

Loss of points for an egg is insignificant to the loss of your life. Wait around too long for a gentleman's kill and you might die yourself. Extra lives cost 20,000 points.

kill or be killed for sure- go for it. Being a sucker for more points, I either try to get the egg or I land on the bottom platform and wait there for a few seconds and generally the lava troll will release the enemy and you can then kill him and catch the egg to get maximum points!

Not bad form at all. I try to lure them over to let Larry grab them. Then pop them so he can have an egg salad sandwich.

The Lava troll's name is Larry? Did you make that up or is it a legit nickname?

Also, I do the Pterodactyl trick almost every game I play, so I have no moral qualms with getting him stuck and then killing him once I have padded my score a bit.
