Well, we have only one Williams game at the moment, Joust 2, After I got it home, I powered it up, and got a RAM Error 577. I figured without doing research since the RAMS were old I went ahead and ordered NOS ones and replaced them all. That is what I did and the problem never went away. I could not do the RAM upgrade to run the faster RAMs because this board has a weird revision that does not support the upgrade. I tried swapping RAM chips around to see if the problem would transfer to some other location and just kept getting the same error. Come to find out, after doing some research that this could be just an erroneous error code because there is no such RAM error code. Or is there? According to literature there isn't. THe machine boots up fine afterwards just after the initial test, it states that it has detected a RAM error 577.

I still have not been able to fix this problem. To my knowledge it does not effect gameplay.

I do not recall if this machine had the original power supply or not. I will definitely look and find out if it is running a switcher. If it is, then it most likely could be posing a problem.

Any thoughts on fixing this error problem would be highly appreciated. My Compulsive behavior just gets to me when I know something is not working properly. It eats at me wanting to fix it and make it right.

IC40 is a 16K (8Kx2) static RAM. Just a shot in the dark, but it might be that. 1-- is dynamic RAM error, 2-- is ROM error, 3-- is CMOS error (undocumented). 5-- might just be that static RAM. It is in the Mystic Marathon drawing set since the Joust 2 drawing set never seems to have been published.

Edit: I just pulled a Joust2 board set and it has the same RAM at IC40. On my Joust2 it is an M58725P 8Kx2 static RAM.

Thank you Ken when I get back to the house tomorrow I will check that out and keep you posted. If it is a chip aside from the original I think 24 RAM chips that I replaced, then it could be the problem.

I am almost certain I do not have that chip in stock so If I can shotgun it with another chip that is on the board then I will do so and see if the problem changes if not, then I will just have to order one and try it out.

Thank you for lending me another possibility.
