Journey Sound Mod

If only someone could get ahold of a high quality (non casette tape) recording from an original master source. As most of you SHOULD know, this particular LIVE recording of "Separate Ways" was never released on any album. That is, unless they released a box set or something (that I don't know about) within recent years that included it. I know that someone on here edited the original song to duplicate the same loop that is on the original arcade game, but it is the studio recording from the Frontiers album/CD and NOT what was used in the game. The fact that it was an "exclusive" recording was a big part of the draw, and adds to the rarity of the game, in my personal opinion...

Anyone hear about any updates or if this is still going to be made or not? I wanted to have a backup just in case my original one decides to give up one day?

which post?
this keeps getting brought up for a tape
with mixed answers on if its a live recording or not.

I still plan on making a solid state stereo replacment
my Journey board is fixin to go out for repairs so I cant start testing the sound mod
untill Im back up :(

Cool thanks for the update Rich! Sorry your Journey is down if you were closer you could borrow mine to test out your mod untill then we''ll be waiting fot it to come out.

Ok guys Rich has given me the final numbers so I will be ordering the remaining parts next week. The production numbers for the Journey replacement sound module will be VERY-VERY LIMITED so if you have not PM'd Rikitiki to get on his list it's NOW or NEVER.

We will not be running extras Journey Cassette replacement boards beyond the reservation list.

Im in for both:D

Just to be clear, this is a single board solution...

The new Journey sound board replaces the original Bally / Midway Dual Pwr Amp w/ Cassette Interface ( A084-91496-B358 ) *and* the Journey cassette player. The functionality of both has been combined into a single board which is pin compatible with the existing Journey arcade wiring harness. You simply remove (and save) your old Journey amp board and cassette player, install the new board and re-attach the existing Journey wiring harness.

Sound Mod

Xray could u please let us know who is on the list so we can be sure we are inline to get a mod?????Thanks, Matt

I sent a couple replys to get this mod...

Not a bad idea Rich but for me, i plan on sticking with the original crap only because i have it all including the brackets to hold the player. All i need is the tape dammit!

I am working on this - but the problem I ran into was that the TDK loop tapes varied in length - some were a few secs over the exact loop and some were a little short. Hopefully I will have a solution soon.

Good news everyone. Some of the hardware has started to arrive. I just finished opening and formatting a stack of 2gb micro sd memory cards to turn your Journey into a rock'n jukebox!

How many songs can be programmed, just the the one song?

How many songs can be programmed, just the the one song?

I was sort of going to ask the same thing. I know this is already "developed" and everything, but wondered what the feasibility of having a dual function with a switch would be? 1. normal, with the live version of Separate Ways and 2."Greatest Hits", which would cycle through maybe 5-6 of the "Greatest Hits" sort of thing. That way you could have it "original" or have the "surprise" version. Just a thought and not trying to criticize an already awesome project that I'm ready to buy (even though I think I'm getting a fully functioning cassette player). Thanks!

With high quality audio files, the 2GB Micro SD card looks to hold about 5 hours of music. That's roughly 100 tracks of 3 minute songs. Your mileage (and music taste) may vary.
