My Journey has no sound and shows a sound board error in the test. I did a search and found a few threads about this and they all say that it is most likely the ribbon cables or a bad z-80 chip. My question is, where do I start to try and troubleshoot the problem? The ribbon cables look good but how can I tell for sure? Which board in the stack is the sound board? Could I take the z-80 chip out of my Tapper and put it into the Journey to see if its the chip? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

the z-80 could be swapped. per the faq here, you can also do an onboard test without the on screen test.

i would definitely start with checking voltages though, make sure yr +5 and +12 are good, and then replace the interconnect cables anyways to ensure no future issues. oh, and the sound board is the first one in the stack (the one with the dip switches on it that should have 3 connectors on the side facing the back door of the machine.)

Switched the z-80 chips in my Journey and Tapper and now I have sound in the Journey and not the Tapper. That was too easy!! Now, where do I get a replacement z-80 chip?
