I bought a non working Journey. Just put in a new swiching power supply.Question I have is what board does the video cable from the monitor plug into. I have read some old posts that it should be on the second board in. The first board has an identical connector. Its plugged into the second board now but im not getting anything on the monitor. The game is getting power but has a loud hum then blows a fuse on the brick. Wondering if this video cable is doing this and is connected in the wrong place.

Thanks, jeff

It does go to the second board but try leaving it disconnected and see if the game powers up without blowing the fuse. If it still blows, you've got problems somewhere else.

Ok just unplugged the monitor so no power going to it, disconnected all boards and still have the very loud hum noise. It did not blow a fuse fast like it did with just the monitor unplugged and the boards still hooked up. When I took the boards out it still makes the noise but did not blow a fuse right away I waited about 10 seconds and it did not blow the fuse so I shut it off. So next question could it be the coin door if so how do you unplug it to test and still make the game turn on and lastly has anyone had the power brick problems make these kind of problems. Thanks jeff

what fuse is blowing? Once you hook the switcher adapter up, the only thing that the power brick powers is the monitor, and possibly the coin door lights. (it might also power the tape player, but i'd really think that would be powered by ac)....
Unplug and remove the sound amp pcb, and reflow all of the header pins, and it may very well stop the humming. It sounds like your problem is actually a short somewhere in the monitor. I'd also unplug the fluorescent fixture in the marquee - a shorted ballast will blow a fuse every time.

I actually have the monitor completely disconnected and the boards are out of the game now. The 3 amp
Fuse was blowing with the monitor disconneted very fast. I took the board stack out still have the loud hum but the fuse is not blowing right away. The hum noise is very loud. This is a cocktail so it has no flouresent light balast just 4 wedge bulbs.

and until you remove and reflow the pins on the sound amp pcb, you'll still have the hum. I'd try unplugging it, as well as everything else and see what happens, then start plugging stuff in one at a time.

I'm thinking coin door now. As its the only thing drawing power but how can I disconnect it and still be able to turn the game on? When I unplud it the game won't turn on

You were right. Its the dual sound amp/ cassette board..when I completely unplugged it the noise is gone. What usually goes bad on that board? I think I'm going to order some new ribbon cables before putting the boards back in as well. There is some minor flaking on them and getting them out was not easy in the cocktail.

cold solder joints and or the mb3770 amp chips and caps are what normally goes bad.

I appreciate all the help everyone. Not being familiar with the dual amp cassette board I had no idea to start there. I thought the sound only came through this board when the cassette player was activated during game play. That board made a heck of a noise and blew fuses fast. Again thanks everyone for the help with this. Jeff
