Working on a Williams Jokerz and was wondering what causes the strange sounds when powered on. And before anyone asks, im wondering about the sounds before the "factory settings" sounds. Here is a short clip(click the picture):

Sound mod to the CPU has been done. ROMs are all updated to latest versions. All sounds are present in test mode and work fine when game is played.

Now I have had machines in the past make odd noises when powered on and off but nothing like this.

Sounds like you gave the machine a reach around there....

I have no idea, but, if it doesnt hurt gameplay oh well...

Just sell me your Solar Quest so you can buy some parts for the Jokerz:D

Mine does that too.
I burned the updated roms but have not done the mod on the board yet, I need to check what exactly it is doing to the circuit because the directions are not 100% clear.
Can you give me pointers ?
My sound is VERY noisy, does this mod completely clear it up or do I have other issues ?

my buddies also does that, seems this is normal? (game plays fine also)

as for the noise you have quattro have you done the ground mod/upgrade that get's rid of the hum?

The directions for the sound mod in the service bulletin are a little hard to follow but once you have the board out and locate U3, it's easy to see.

The sketch in the bulletin resembles the actual traces on the board. I will draw up a new image this afternoon.

Took me about 5 mins to do.

mine never did that, but if it only happens at power up, i wouldn't put much thought into it. sounds like there is a small power surge at the sound board?

snap a pic of the finished product if you can also :D

and yea the instructions are a lil difficult to make out, but i felt confident in doing it for my buddy if and when he is ready to do it.

Well this took longer than I thought....:) I *THINK* I got everything labeled correctly. I take no responsibility if you damage your board. Please look over the original service bulletin and compare diagrams. Be careful not to create any shorts from cap or resistor legs. I used a 10uf 50v cap and a 1K ohm 1/2 watt resistor as that is what I had on hand. Hope this helps. :)
