I don't know if anybody here would be interested in this sort of thing or not.

Cool links :D! I have a collection of Tron albums so I'll probably pick this one up too. Just like games techno has evolved to the point where I'm no longer interested in some of the new genres. Minimalist and dubstep have been quite popular over the last few years but being from Orlando I'm still a breaks/trance fan. I'm sure I'm talking to myself at this point but for those of you who download music look for the song Pumpin' by Novy vs Eniac. In particular you need to find the Electro remix as it features heavy Tron sampling that the regular mix does not.

As long as we're talking to ourselves, I'm not much into all the different names they give to electronic music, but my main draw to "dubstep" is the double-timed beats. I DJ and I do a lot of scratching. Those dubstep beats allow you to go really fast (treat it like 160 bpm) or really slow (treat it like 80 bpm). So, you can switch up your scratching a lot over those types of beats.

But anyway, that etched flip-side is badass!

Interesting... On occasion I'll stream drum and bass but I've never been a huge fan of scratching. I do however recognize how hard it is to master.

+10000 :cool::D

While we're talking to ourselves, if I was a scratch fan I'd tell myself to get my hands on the X-Men vs Invisibl Skratch Piklz audio if I could find it. Some really mind blowing stuff going on there, and that's w/o being able to see the body work.

Sounds pretty cool, I think I've tripped across some of Joker's stuff at http://percussionlab.com/sets , which I have a habit of loading up and hitting play on a random set when I need some background music. Neat etching too, shame I don't have a turntable or I'd be all over that.

Haha, piklz v x-men is classic. That sort of started it all. Scratch music has advanced light years since then. So here we go waaaay off topic.

This is D-Styles (from the skratch piklz) doing Fuck U Pac Man (the whole song is made from scratching: drums, bass, etc.). Not the best tack off the album but its video game related and he cuts up the pacman sample in the middle.

Here's what this sort of music looks like live (4 DJs)

Here's the Skratch Piklz vs. the X-Men (RIP Roc Raida). Almost primitive now but still cool.

Here's where things are going now. Turntables that play notes by changing the pitch of the record. As the fader on the mixer goes up and down, that changes the note.

I am reading this thread.

Thanks JamBurglar for the links to the vids. I had no idea people were doing pitch shifting on the fly to make scratches in different notes like that.

I just sold my MK3D's and now my Vestax 07-Pro is up for grabs. Big fan of the Piklz X-Men, DMC contests, etc..Seen X-Men with Roc Raida, MMM, Q*Bert and others live..

I never practiced enough to keep my skills sharp, and I didn't like that I had to be pretty sober to get all my timings down. Gear went away to make room for more games :)

And Thanks TK_Monkey for the link to Percussion lab sets. I have recently discovered glitch and am enjoying it gonna see if I can find some good stuff in there. Listening to some sets at work right now.

Yeah, scratching and video games have some common ground. You definately need hand-eye coordination. You have to pretty much breathe scratching to get good, and drunkeness makes it harder, lol.

I always thought it would be cool if they did a scratch battle game in the arcades, where you could actually bust off real cuts (instead of the DJ hero mixing stuff) and battle other people. I want to be able to go into the arcade, with my vast scratching experience thinking I'ma crush the competition, and then get my ass beat by some 12-year-old kid. Everyone needs that experience.

If I were a zillionare I would have a small club attached to the arcade complete with tables, computer, etc....

I would open up a comic/toy/videogame/record store with arcade games and tunrtables. I think I'd need the zillion dollars as captial investment because there's no way that shit would make money.
