Hey Guys,

So after years of searching and looking around I finally pulled the trigger and got my first real arcade game. On top of that..its my favorite game to play! I put together a mame cocktail machine as well as an xbox 360 custom showcase cabinet..but this is my first real classic! This is what I got....

Donkey Kong
Rug Rats? hah

The DK has some funky looking joystick so i'm definitely going to replace that. It also looks like it needs a cap kit for the board and sound board i'm assuming. The Rug rats cabinet is being thrown in so I guess if I can get it working I can throw a 60 in 1 board in there. Does anyone know what the Rug Rats cabinet actually was beforehand..or what I can restore it into? Please be honest.. think I got a decent deal on the DK if all it needs is a cap kit and new joystick? I have to fix it up cosmetically eventually but i'm moving in a year or two so i'm probably going to wait on restoring the outsides.

thanks!
Jason

It might just need a new ball on the stick. You'd have to check when you get it, of course, to see if it's a standard Nintendo 4-way. The Rugrats I *think* is a relatively rare game. I don't see them come up for sale very often. I've played it in MAME a few times, kinda interesting.

good point, i'll definitely check that out before I start buying anything. I can't tell yet if its in an original cab or not...the klov picture looks a little different. No clue whats wrong with it yet..maybe just a fuse or something (I wish haha). Can anyone tell if its an original?

Does everyone agree I should be getting the deluxe cap kit from Bob Roberts for the board and sound? Anyone in the tri-state area do these installations before I try it myself?

it was such a good purchase that it needed two threads. LOL

These cabs are not JAMMA and a 60:1 won't go right in there. It's the less than idea one to start with to build a 60:1.
You really should just restore it as a DK. The Nintendo machines typically use inverted video.

Oh yea i'm definitily restoring the DK..its my favorite game...i'm talking about the Rug Rats machine...I started a new thread because i'm trying to have it delivered instead of having to do a 6 hour round trip....speaking of, would that taito cab be jamma?

Yes you should

I just spoke to a local monitor repairman who has been fixing arcade machines for about 20 years now. From our conversation he thinks it sounds like the tube is the issue and may not be just a cap kit. Does this sound right?..the image pretty much just shows dark blue on the screen. Not sure if that means the tube is going..
