John's Arcade on the Road. Flux Capacitor Arcade - Chicago, Il - OUTRUN 2 - OMGWTFBBQ

GregBL was AWESOME enough to let me visit his home arcade and do a video review. His collection is amazing! His games are lovingly restored and his selection of titles is TOP NOTCH. We reviewed his game OutRun 2 which is pretty bad ass! Check it out...

Check it out in HD here:

Woo hoo! Thanks for coming over John, was great to meet you in person and you're always welcome back at the Flux Capacitor Arcade... :)

I love the flux capacitor hanging on the wall there. haha

Outrun 2 IMO beats out EVERY racing/ driving game ever. In encapsulates everything a motorhead wants in a modern racing game. Truly the pinnacle of excellence. I use to play the shit out of it on my XBOX arcade cab years ago.

I'd have to agree. That game BLEW ME AWAY. If I see one for cheap I would for sure grab it.

How bad ass would an upright be!?

Great video!

I recently played 2 driver version Outrun 2 at the gameworks in schaumburg. I thought the game was good but I thought the sequencial shifter was lame. I know a lot of new super cars have the sequencial paddle shifters, but many of the cars in the game are older cars. And if you are going to use a squencial, why not just do paddle shifters then like the actual cars have? /rant

I love SF RUSH, I have a linked set of 2 just like those, except they are still in process of being restored and cleaned up.

I seem to remember seeing a picture of an actual Out Run 2 upright somewhere...this might be it.

When it comes to racers, I prefer the sit-down experience, but they are space hogs.

I'm slowly working on my wife to allow games out of the small room in the back. In the video you see several games out in the main room; they are all on casters and were out for a party we had a few weeks earlier. Normally they're wheeled into the back storage room in the basement, which you can't see on the video. I figure if I take my time moving them back into the storage area, they'll eventually become permanent members outside the smaller arcade room. She made exceptions for the pinball machines, Megatouch, and the Ms-Pac cocktail (also not shown on video), so that precedent has been set. The skee ball is a temporary resident, something I've been working on fixing up for a friend of ours (got off CL for $75, scoring wasn't working, fixed that by resoldering all the connections). Although we've grown to like it so much, I may just have to get one myself. I've continued to acquire games and have several more that are in my restoration queue, in anticipation of the day that my daughter doesn't need the large play area out in the main room. When that day comes, that entire section will be lined with games. Let's keep that our secret... :zip:

As for the comment on the YouTube page that I crashed repeatedly, it isn't easy to play while carrying on a conversation, being filmed, and using your hands to point out things in the game...and I don't think I'd played Out Run 2 in several weeks, so I was a bit rusty. ;)
