Jawhn's New Defender. W00p!

Yank those batteries out of there. Don't want them leaking and we'll do the Lithium battery upgrade.

I checked them last night, and they looked pretty new, but I will yank 'em when I get home. Papa Johns it is, I'll get a pepperoni/sausage combo. Now I'm hungry. And remember, this is tomorrow night, not tonight.

chiming in late, but nice defender, jawhn! you've had some luck with the el cheapo scores lately. i think i'm gonna annex my neighbor's garage and turn it into the arcade part 2.

I really, really, really, really, really need to enclose my concreted/roofed back porch and turn that into my 700 sq. ft. arcade. SOON. Gah. No money, though.

Well you probably could have, if you hadn't spent a couple grand on arcade games! :D

Ok, we made some progress... and a minor set back.

The cab is a hack job of wiring, the Auto/Manual, Advance and HS Reset switches where replaced by regular switches and the harness hacked...

Switcher was hacked in (harness chopped).

Second ISO in the cab, which appears to come off the main ISO into the second one and then feeds the PS board??:confused:

As soon as my camera batteries are recharged I'll take some pictures.

What we did
========================
Jawn brought the game over, and we fired it up. Bad rug pattern as shown in the pictures. All 4 LED's on solid.

Started checking connectors, and found that when I moved the Ribbon cable between the CPU and ROM board the game would show the correct rug pattern and would boot.

Pulled that off and crimped down on the connectors, re-installed.

Game now has Rug pattern that appears normal, get 4 LED's that blink then go out (Yeah!). Now the game is in the settings/bookkeeping and won't exit. Every time we go to Option 28, then forward, it resets and goes back to the Settings screen.

So I find a donor board, pull the 5101 off it, and the 4071 and replace those, same results. Don't know if those are any good, might not be. We also replaced the batteries.

Same results.

While doing this, the Sound board decided it was tired of working and gave up... So we'll add that to the list of things to fix.

Power Supply board needs a LOT of work, so we'll probably stick with the Switcher for now.

Did you really just say that?

Did you really just quote that?

Man, I use "hella" in everyday sentences. Back off, mang! :D

I'm sooooooooo glad Brien knows what he's doing. (Even though he claims he doesn't) The damn thing would be a mystery to me. But I'm learning. ;)

Get a new ribbon cable from bob roberts. If you had to crimp it it is toast.

Ok, here are some pics...

Well, if it was mine, I would hit it with the Garden hose and let it dry....

Should I take it to the car wash and use a power sprayer on it? :D

Yeah, I know, I know... I just bought this thing, and wanted to get it fixed before cleaning. Priority mixup, I suppose. I did remove a LOT of stuff from in there... There were literally bolts and buttons and all sorts of parts in there, laying on the power supply.

And I've already named the spiders, so... Gotta put them up for adoption, I guess? :(

Awesome score man! Personally I like switching power supplies, nobody sees them anyway!

Me three!

Congrats Jawhn :)

Everyone should have a Defender. If you haven't seen the interviews with Eugene Jarvis on the creation of the game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTs4d7xW704), go see it. Makes me love the game even more!

Oh, and aesthetics aside, my Williams games seem to behave a little better with the linear power supply. YellowDog does a real nice job on those :)

What, no dildos? I'd take it back.
