I just got an email from one of the vendors in China... the offer:

Dear Sir

Japan Cabinet and Machine in stock offer , base on 20" or 40" container

Astro City x 1 @USD100
New Astro City x 20 @USD150
Versus City x 12 @USD200
New Versus City x 10 @USD400
Blast City x 25 @USD300

Nice prices. Shipping, however, is likely going to be a shit ton. SO I asked. I'll update this post when I hear back. Just looking to see if there is any desire at all to pickup some Japanese cabinets?

Fred I might could go for a candy set up for fighting games but I'm also abit leery about trusting weird emails...

You do realize that you have to buy a container full and not just a couple, right? Nice prices, but one heck of an initial cash outlay.

...

Id be interested in taking a few (5-10), just need to know shipping to the US and where id be grabbing them. Its basically double shipping I guess.

thanks

Jon

just a warning about the containers of candy cabs from China. Typically these candy cabs are more rusted and hobbled together. You'll get a hodge podge lot. Lots of off colors on those astros as these will be well used and worn down.

It's the Japanese containers that have better condition machines.

I know the bulk buys they've done on Neo-Geo have been hit and miss. Wasn't there one recently where every machine was damaged?

I've been on the lookout for a candy cab for a bit now. Seems like all the good deals are on the left coast. I'd be in for at least one if shipping quotes can justify.
Thanks,
Mike

It is about 5 grand to get a 40' container shipped from China to a US port and then you need the container hauled again to wherever you are. I am sure you probably have to pay for or rent the container at some point as well (not sure how that part works).

This isn't a "Great deal on a Candy cabinet" deal, this is a "Spend $25,000" on Candy cabinets to resell deal.

This type of "deal" has caused drama in the past. Kingsley (avidcollect) who used to head up CoinOpStore in San Jose did one of these bulk deals with a mess of guys on Neo-Geo and KLOV. Ended up shipping out a lot of damaged and rusted cabs. Pissed off a lot of people.

Though, could have just been a one time incident. I know CoinOpStore has done some legit deals over the years publicly and privately.

But to echo others comments, doesn't seem like a deal to me, just a lot of upfront cash/hassle even if you were able to get a whole group of guys to commit.

I'm aware... just not sure how many fit in a container... or the cost of shipping the container, etc...

NICE! I love the contrast between your living room decor and the wall-to-wall candy cabs. :)

So what's the story behind that buy? How much did it come out to for each and how much trouble was it to ship/arrange pickup for all of them?

That's actually not my house its my friends. He was the one who organized the group buy and everything. The cabs ranged from about $380 each for the regular candy cabs and around $450 for the Atomiswaves and NEOs. When we offloaded the container on the sidewalk all the cars were stopping and wondering what the hell we were moving.

That's awesome. $380-450 is a good deal if they were in solid working condition. I'm sure it was a lot of work for your friend though.
