Hey peeps,

I will be traveling to Tokyo, Japan next month for vacation. I am going to go shop for all sorts of stuff, including PCB's and MVS games. Any recommendations?

Other than Club Sega, Round 1, The Warehouse Arcade and Taito Station, what arcades are worth checking out?

Also, any Pachinko Parlors that are worth visiting?

Ask Darksoft and Mitsu over at arcade-projects.com (they are both on here as well)

They just got back from Japan this week.

:D

Assuming you will be in Tokyo, HEY arcade is probably the best. Also checkout Mikado for some retro arcades.

Sega Club is mostly crane and rythm games. Round 1....meh. Unfortunately the Japan arcade scene is dieing a slow, redemption/rythm death.

There is a place called hotel ibusaki, it might be worded a bit differently, they had a lot of classics like space harrier cockpit and after burner cockpit. You might want to google for this, I don't really know where it is though.

Go to Akihabara - crazy world of electronics .

Ebisu, Sapporo beer HQ is a cool place, you can visit the beer station

If you're a console gamer/retro game fan, check out Super Potato in Akihabara. Definitely a cool shop. I think most of the places you named already cover my arcade experience while there. Give me a shout if you need suggestions for anything else to do/see on your visit.

Yeah Super Potato is cool for sure. I was really disappointed with Club Sega personally.

That's awesome man, Japan is a lot of fun! As others have said Akihabara is the place for arcades and shopping. Best retro arcades are HEY, Natsuge, and Super Potatoes top floor has a few. Be warned that prices have gotten crazy, and it's hard to find deals that would beat just buying from an exporter on eBay, but the experience is a lot of fun. I love BEEP!, Surugaya, and Mandrake. There are about 10 shops worth checking out. Also, check out Yodabashi, which is their major electronics store. If you really want deals, look for Book Offs in out of the way spots. Have fun and eat lots of curry and ramen!

I didn't see any arcades under 100 yen. At the time, it was almost $1 to play. That's minimum. Still alot of fun. But I guess it's the same as D&B.

I miss my traveling days.

There are no deals or maybe rare. I remember going to Bangkok. The MVS carts cost more than US even when the dollar was strong.

Like most have said, for console games super potato, etc. are good to go to. But they are pretty expensive. my favorite place to go in Akihabara is a small mom-and-pop called "Friends" (but written in Katakana) It is just a bit north of all of the standard touristy stuff, and is in a very nondescript building. You need to go in and go up the stairs to the second level. Stuff here is cheaper, and there are almost no, to only a few, tourists here. I am usually the only one in the store when I show up... Still walkable from the eki though. I am fairly sure it is still there. It was last may when I went last. The even have a scratch and dent box with lots of discounted games with imperfect labels.
