Any button or input will cause:
- a unique LED to light
- a unique audio tone (using your cabinet speaker)

I designed this because it will be useful to me. I need something to expedite testing of all the inputs of my new Jamma Switchers.

Would anyone else find this useful?

(Note: this does not test video)

I just use a game PCB. I like nfl blitz 99/2000 as it does cga and ega.

Most games have test menus for inputs and sounds.

Thanks for your input. I know what you mean.

Right now, I use a 60in1 board for testing. I have to cycle through 50 or so screens just to get to the button inputs page, and it still doesn't check all the input buttons.

Looks interesting, but not sure it would be useful for me as I don't have a whole lot of JAMMA games.

Nice work!! i wish i could make gerber files quickly.

I mocked up a version with LEDs only. I'm leaning toward this one.

This is basically a way to test the buttons and wiring in a jamma cab?

Mainly, Yes. Though, I'm planning to use 8 of these to verify that all of the inputs of my switchers are working correctly before I ship them to customers.

Somewhat of note, I've now had two individuals that ran into trouble while installing my Jamma switchers. Having this tester would have quickly identified their wiring issue.

Tell them that is what the continuity setting on a volt meter is for! :-o

My practice is always wire everything up color coded.

Continuity check your work for bad connections.

Flip it all on (empty) and check your voltages are right (don't want to cook a PCB).

Than testing when on.

Having 8 of these would only help for some mistakes. It certainly wouldn't verify that you didn't put 5v on 12v.

Best debug plan is to hook #1 up and test everything. Than hook #2 and so on.

But I also enjoy good wiring puzzles. ;)

If the 5V and 12V are swapped, the 5V LED will be super bright, and the 12V LED will be barely lit.

My need is different from most others. For me, I already have a "known good" JAMMA wiring harness. I'm just testing to verify that each and every diode and relay is properly functioning for each of the 8 ports of the switcher I just assembled. I can't think of a reason anyone else would ever want more than 1 of these.

Hey, I got some PCBs in the mail yesterday. I quickly soldered one together and these are going to work great for my needs.

Actually, it worked better than I expected, because it helped identify that my button 4 was acting pretty wonky. That microswitch has now been replaced.
