I have acquired a taito gameroom classics 20 in 1 cabinet which had the jamma harness cut off. I rewired it up and got the actual 20 in 1 working, well there are two of them and one has no sound and the other has player one control issues, but I was wondering what I would need to do to test other jamma pcb's in it? I have it wired to a temporary control panel because the original was gone. I know there is not a +12 volt so could I just use another +12 volt source?

The only other jamma pcb's I have right now are bottom of the ninth and a main event. Do these need another board to run or should they run in this type of setup?

Thanks for any help

Well, if you have no +12, that's probably why the sound isn't working for one.

If you want to test other boards, you need to check the pinouts of those boards to make sure you have all the voltages necessary for the board to run:

Thanks for the reply!

The 20 in 1 boards only use the +5 it seems, because there was no +12 on the original harness that was chopped, and the other 20 in 1 board has good sound but the player one keeps moving left on all games. I tried a different switch with the same results. Seems like each board has it's own issue.

I will check the link you sent me regarding the pin outs.

Thanks again

I checked the pin outs and I have all the correct voltages and the video wires are all in the right places. I just get a intermittent white to black screen. Could this monitor be a higher resolution or something?

Here are a few pics, it's in a Taito gameroom classics 20 in 1.

Is there another area you may need to see?

Thanks, Dustin

Well, the tube number indicates a 20" tube. the chassis reminds me of a Makvision, but I'll have to look into it more...

Well, you said the original harness was chopped, but didn't have +12v as the Taito board didn't use it. Does it have -5v? Both Bottom of the Ninth and Main Event both need the -5v, so if it's not there, then they probably won't work....

No, -5vdc is NOT ground. Some PC power supplies have it, and some don't. I normally use one of these from Bob Roberts...

Thanks for the information!

That P/S looks handy. I did find a PC one I had laying around that has -5v that I will try tomorrow. So as long as I have +12, +5, -5 and grounds on the correct pins I should be good as far as the power goes? As of now I'm getting the +5v from the monitor board, is that ok or would it be better to just get it from the P/S too?

Damn! I'm asking allllllot of questions! :)

Thanks, Dustin

I normally run all my board voltages and grounds from the power supply...

:)

That worked! Thanks again, that's the second problem you fixed for me.

One last question and I'll leave you alone for a few days. :)

When switching between JAMMA boards will I have to adjust the vertical and/or horizontal positions on the monitor's controls?

Either way thanks so much for your help!

The orientation of the picture is controlled by the board's programming. So, if you were to stick an Ajax board in there, the picture would be turned sideways (since Ajax is a vertical orientation game), and the only way to adjust it is to physically rotate the monitor.

Now, you may come up with a board that appears upside down. Most JAMMA games have a dip switch to flip the picture back to right-side-up, but some won't. In those cases, you'll have to manually change the yoke connector to get the picture proper.

And don't be surprised if you plug in a board and have to tweak the holds or size/position a little. Sometimes the sync frequency is a little different between games....

Yeah, this is what I was really wondering. So it is pretty normal to have to adjust the size and position when using different jammas?
