Hi folks.

I currently have a Gauntlet Legends game; 4 player; Jamma+; 3 buttons and 1 49-way joystick per player; 4 players; new tri-res 27" monitor.

I'd like to add an NBA Jam boardset to to the game. NBA Jam is also Jamma+; 3 buttons and 1 8-way joystick per player; std res 25" monitor.

So if I were to add the NBA Jam boards, set the dip switch on GL to use 8 way sticks; replace my 49-way sticks with 8 ways; could I then simply swap the Jamma cables from the GL to the NBA Jam when I wanted to switch games?

Is it that simple? Both are Jamma+ games; are they swappable? What other things (if any) would need to be swapped if I were to swap the Jamma+ cables to switch between games?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks in advance!

edit: I'm particularly concerned with the player 3 and 4 controls because these don't appear to be part of the Jamma standard

It will work. Jam and Gauntlet are both midway games so the kick harnesses for players 3 and 4 are the same. It's 3 plugs, Jamma and 2 kick harnesses. You need the 8 ways and a standard res monitor because of Jam, but you know about the dips for that.

the only problem that you may have is if the 3P and 4P harnesses have different edge connectors than that of the NBA Jam board. i had a 4 player run and gun but the 3p & 4p connectors didnt fit - i think they were too wide and i couldnt get both on. so if your gauntlet has the thin edge connectors, then you should be fine.

The same Midway kick harness that you use for Jam is the same Midway kick harness used for Gauntlet.

What about power connectors, speaker connectors, video connectors, etc?

Is all of that covered by the kick harness or is there more to it than that?

Anyone know?

That is all covered by the jamma harness.

There should be three harnesses. Jalpert already mentioned them above. The jamma harness and two kick harnesses.

Thanks -- stil learning this stuff.

This is my only Jamma game, believe it or not... :)

I'm looking to do the same thing with my Gauntlet Legends cab. I got a switchable med/std res monitor to put in it and I want to put in 8way sticks instead of the 49 way. I have a question on the harness as there looks to be no pin connectors to hookup the 8ways, just a single connector that goes to the 49way sticks on the control panel now.

Do I need a new jamma harness for this?

Bump for an interesting question.

I just looked at my 49 way sticks as well and there's one 10-12 wire connector hooking up each 49 way stick.

When I look at pics of 8 way joysticks on the web (don't have any here) I see what looks like terminals for each microswitch.

What gives? Is there a way of hooking an 8-way up to the existing wiring harness?

Please help the newbie. :)

Another way of asking the question -- how could ANY wiring harness that is Jamma use 49 way joysticks? Wouldn't the non-standard connector on the other end disqualify it as a Jamma connector?
