Once before, I put a multigame (I think it was a 39-in-1) in a Frogger cabinet, but the sounds on a bunch of the games (esp Gyruss) were messed up, so I eventually sold it off.

I now have another Frogger cabinet I'm restoring, and I'm debating whether to restore to original Frogger or to get a multi-game again.

Has the quality improved? From reading reviews here, it seems that the iCade 60-in-1's still have the sound problems on the same games. Are there any brand of multigame boards that get it right? (I guess Arcadeshop, but for the nearly $400 they charge, I could restore it to Frogger and gold-plate the control panel).

I take it you mean the sounds aren't 100% accurate. no, to my knowledge nothing has changed. they're still bootleg boards that emulate games, at that rate you might as well do like a MAME cab.

+1. Sound problems, esp. w/ Gyruss, are still there in the 60-in-1s.

Frogger sounds just fine, though, so you could disable the games you don't want and go that route if acquiring everything you need for a restored Frogger is cost-prohibitive.

I was getting a loud hiss from my new 60-1. Had to replace the sound amp.
Now its back to normal and i am getting the normal hiss!

xx-in-1 boards (48 in 1, 60 in 1, etc) that are the small single board JAMMA units have a DAC chip to do audio sounds.

So instead of nice FM synthesis or other sound chips you have sound samples that are played back via a Digital to Analog converter. This is why you have crappy sounds on them. The more complex the audio, the worse it sounds. This is why 1943, Gyruss, and the other games with complex audio outputs sound like garbage.
