JAMMA Harness connectors are too tiny

Ages ago I bought a stock of JAMMA harnesses because I knew someday I would need to use them to rewire a cabinet. Today, that day game.

Except, the damn harnesses have the tiniest connectors I've ever seen. Like the quick connect connectors you would attach to the button switches and joystick switches are about 1/2 the size they need to be to actually connect.

So basically I have half a dozen worthless JAMMA connectors. Its Wednesday night, and no shot at getting replacements this week by mail. Yahoo.

So either I suck it up and remove and replace all the connector tips, or reorder connectors and eat the $100 I dropped on these.

Any recommendations for new harnesses? I seriously doubt I'll be rewiring these. I don't have that kind of time or patience.

Bob makes the best but you'll pay more for them.

It sounds like you purchased edge connectors with solder tabs not crimp on tabs.

I have only seen board edge connectors in two different varieties: solder tabs which are already fully populated and crimp connectors which are not populated until you crimp on a pin and then inset it.

If that's your only problem, you can either buy some .187 connectors at Home Depot, cut off those conectors, and recrimp on some new ones (easy).

Or just cut the connectors off, tin the wire and solder it directly to the switch (also easy).

Might add 10-minutes to your installation either way, but not that big of a deal...

It would take you all of 2 or 3 minutes to cut those connectors off and crimp some suitable ones on. Hardly makes the harnesses "worthless".

You guys must be a lot faster at this than I am. I figured at least a half hour. Granted, I am slow with wiring, but I didn't think I was that slow.

Wow - a half hour? Yeah, definitely send them back for other ones, wait a week or two, and get the right ones. Much better than a half hour's worth of work...

Where would you purchase wire pins to add on to a Jamma harness?

Can you take a picture of what you've actually got? Right now it's all guess-work on our part and a picture would make it clear.

And I am sure there are many other places as well. You do need to make sure you have the right pins for your harness. Solder tail harness pins are not replaceable but the Molex pins are. I have been told that there is a source for AMP pins but I have never found it. I just replace the AMP connectors with Molex connectors and repopulate.

Bob has the AMP .084 pins.
