I just got an X-Men: Children of the Atom jamma cabinet and found a post a while back about someone not being able to access another panel (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=35047&highlight=cabinet+access+panel).

I have the key that gives me access to the coin door and was originally led to believe that the same key could be used to open the back access panel as well.

When I put the key in, it won't turn at all.

Are there normally two different keys? Not sure if this would be common knowledge or not. I contacted the person who sold the cab but haven't received a response yet. I'm hesitant to drill the lock out quite yet.

When I tried to access any latches that lock the control panel in place, I found that there was a wooden panel blocking any access to it. Or is there anything else I might try?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if pics would help much.

They are almost always two different keys. The back door key is usually hanging from a bit of stiff wire on the inside of the coin door. If it's missing, then you either need to find the key or drill out the lock.

Drill the lock. They're cheap and easy to replace. Drilling is faster than learning how to pick the lock if you don't already know how.

Yeah, definitely gonna go with drilling the lock then if thats the case.

I actually finally found the clips and removed the Control panel and the bezel. But the monitor didn't give me any wiggle room and I'd rather not remove it if I don't have to.

And you didn't find the back door key inside the coin door?

Also try to look around the inside bottom of the cabinet, in the coin box, etc. I've had games where the key fell off the hook at some point, and I found it sitting on the floor of the game.

Nope, sadly I looked around and shone a flashlight in and everything.

I guess it could potentially be stuck along one of the inner sides or in some weird position.

So did you want to get access to the interior just to have a look or does something need fixing?

Yup, need access to the interior. Seems that the powersupply might need fixing. I connected it and powered it up. I could hear the static from the monitor being on, but no game and no marquee light either.

Left it on a while in case it just needed to warm up.

Try coining it up. Sometimes people turn the sound off for attract mode. If it coins up and you can hear it then you know the game is playing blind and the issue lies with the monitor and not the board.

try looking in the coin bucket for a key too. :)

I was ready to break into the back door on our Namco 20th Anniv. and those clever folks at Namco actually had it laying in the coin bucket. however, a funny sidenote, I found a treasure in the bottom of the cab: the original top coin door. it's a wonder it didn't demolish anything inside, seeing as how the machine was transported flat in a Chevy Venture.

another obvious tip, sometimes people will leave the locks in the back doors, but either leave it in the unlocked position or take the cam off and SCREW the back door on. had some stuff I got from auction like that, where the lock wasn't really locked at all.
