do i put the player 1 and player 2 wires together for the joystick up, down, right, and left and for the fire button 1 and 2 since i only have 1 joystick and the 2 fire buttons or should i only connect the player 1 wires to the joystick and the player 1 wires to the fire button 1 and 2...i want to have both player 1 and player 2 so how should i connect the wires for both players with only 1 joystick and 2 fire buttons...can someone please help me out...thanks...

Leave the player 2 wires off of any player one controls. So many jamma 2-player games are made to be simultaneous 2-player that you'd only shoot yourself in the foot if you did it the other way. If you attach both sets to the same controls then the two people will be mating while playing.

so i will only have player 1 working not player 2...so when i start the games never select 2 players right since player 2 controls are not connected...ok i guess i will only connect the player 1 start button only and the player 1 wires to the controler...in other words dont connect any player 2 wires at all...

yes. However, by doing this you will drastically cut down on the number of games you'll ever really be able to enjoy on the cab. You're main hope if you do this Player 1 only jamma wiring is with a multiboard (48-in-1 or 60-in-1) as most of those games are classic one player at a time games.

...also, if you ever sell or trade the cabinet, the next guy down the line won't have to undue all over your wiring in order to easily hook up a second player stick and buttons.

Make sure if you're not hooking those player 2 wires up to anything, to clean-cut them so no bare wires are showing.

i have a jamma 60 in 1 board so can i connect both player 1 and player 2 wires to the same joystick and bottons 1 and 2 since you can only play one player at a time

aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....now I see what you were going for. Should be fine then.

BUT, I beleive its still unneccesary to even hook the player 2 joystick and button wires up (other than the player 2 start button) becuase most games on that board have the 2 players taking turns on just 1 set of controls (just like on the original dedicated machines).

ok the question is will player 2 work if i only hook up the player 1 wires...i want to be able to play both player 1 and player 2 with the same joystick...my guess is to hook both player 1 and player 2 wires to the joystick and the 2 buttons but im not sure if this will work...like i said i want to play both player 1 and player 2...

yes. almost every game on the 60-1 is set up for a single joystick/buttons. Leave the P2 joystick and buttons unconnected. Connect the p2 start button though.

yup, pretty sure he's right. I've only got the 48-in-1, so I know that's how it is on that one.

DO NOT HOOK UP PLAYER 2 Josticks and buttons. ONLY hook up PLAYER 2 START.

i do have a 60-1 ;) . I think i have 4 or 5 games disabled, though. Thats how every one i've seen is wired though. I think some people use the p2 wiring to add a trackball, but i couldn't swear to that, i think i've read it somewhere, though.

Here is the wiring schematic from the standard 6 wire trackball connector (using P2 wires):

Black to Ground
Red to +5V
Yellow to 2nd player UP
Green to 2nd player DOWN
Brown to 2nd player LEFT
Blue to 2nd player RIGHT
