Jamma adaptors... Whats the best way to pull these off?

Well I have a really nice jamma test rig and a bunch of boards by different manufactures. So I am in need of quite a few adapters to get my work bench finally up and running.

So naturally I am here trying to get some ideas on the best way to either make adapters or buy them. Whats the pros and cons of each. What kind of money am I looking at to get them in hand.

So lets start off with what adapters I need tonight to start testing all this crap I have.

mk1 & mk2's = jamma nothing really needed
pole position's
dk, dk3, dkjr & popeye's
space invader's
pac, mspac & pacjr's
Williams, stargate ect. ect.

That's a pretty good start above! Now if I was going to make all the ones I need. Where would be the best place to buy the parts needed for the adapters at a really decent price? What exactly would I need to buy? How good would these boards run once I jammatized them for bench repairs only? Am I over looking anything?

Thanks in advance!

I built mine from connectors and fingerboards bought at www.jammaboards.com.

Of course, you can't use it for Space Invaders unless you're going to get a black and white monitor? or are you planning on doing an adaption for using a color monitor?

And for the Nintendo's, you'll need to put a video inverter in to get video on a regular monitor.

Also, a good idea to add an audio jack to plug in computer speakers for those boards that don't have amplifiers on the board.

Don't forget that Pac's have AC inputs that convert to DC, so if you run regular DC input into the adapter (which will work) you might get a bit of a voltage drop thru the diodes so the boards may not work properly without a voltage bump (although mine run fine).

And have fun building an adapter for Williams boards that connect to all the boards in the set...

Thank you for that info. It seems that my work is cut out for me.

Looks like PP will not be that big of a deal.

Hello All:
This evening is took a shot at wiring up a video only test adaptor to test the 8-ga-million PP boards I have lying around untested so I can test them at home and not have to go to my game in storage. But when I thought I completed it and plugged in a known good board to test the adaptor, the light on the switching powere supply didn't even light up! But it does work, because I stuck a plain jamma board in the rig and it fired up perfect. I used the pinout at jammaboards.com and just wired the basics on both boards: 4 grounds and 2 +5's on the cpu board, and 8 grounds, 2 on each end of both sides with +5 in between the grounds on both sides plus the 3 colors, video ground, and composite sync, assumably in the correct order, but no light on the switcher! Can someone tell me what I'm probably doing wrong? I'm not trying for sound, steering or any inputs, just video. Any useful input or info appreciated. Thanks!

The cpu and video boards each have gnd on the first pin and last pin on the edge connectors on both sides, 1&A and 22&Z on the cpu and 1&A and 15&S on the video board, pins 2&B and 21&Y are +5V on the cpu and pins 2&B and 14&R are +5V on the video board, that should allow the power supply to run and then you can go ahead and hook up the R-G-B & Sync leads and the video gnd to the monitor.

Billy, I just ordered 20 or so of the jammaboards adapter pcbs. Your welcome to come by and check them out when they come in. Looks like they should make quick work for putting adapters together compared to the old fashioned way.
I will let you know next time I order from them if you want to get in to get some volume pricing.

For the nintendo stuff I would spend the bucks on Mikes adapter...its the cats ass. I do have a spare inverter board if you wanted to build your own adapter and we could build an amp out of something like an LM380....who has time for that, buy the adapter.
