Jack Guarnieri emailed me - thought I'd share

From a very reliable source of mine and I quote:
" I already saw Tron at the end of January, same old, same old. One sad toy and a fan pattern. "

Doesn't mention anything about software though probably because it's still a tad early in the game. This could be released and be mind blowing for all we know.

And FWIW I have conflicting info now on Muppets. One source says Christmas time release while the other says SR's pin is next.
BTW - no one wants to play guess the supposed next SR pin?

You sure your source didn't see Rolling Stones and think it was Tron? Stones is fan layout with a sad toy. Tron isn't even remotely close to a fan layout.

you've seen the layout, right? or at least the proposal? or am i thinking of a different poster?

Yup, I've seen the design. It's kind of like Tommy's layout, but w/ more flow. The mystery shot horseshoes to the upper flipper....and instead of the mirror, it's a loop to the upper flipper. It's got lower pop bumpers like TSPP (but on the right). A toy up the middle near the back (not sure what it does, though).

please tell me it has a spinning disk.......

Jack already has a network of pin operators, having been a Stern distributor for many years. And he's already well-entrenched in the coin-op/redemption market. I think he'll be marketing to both operators and collectors. And he might give a price break to existing ops, who knows? Being the mfr, he'll do his own distribution, cutting out a middleman, which could be a flexible arrangement. This situation is unique in modern times because it is a new pinball co. starting from scratch (as opposed to merging or being re-badged or making a one-off repro game).

I'm excited because he really seems to be intent on raising the bar on pinball. A more modern game (with big lcd screen and feature-rich playfield) could attract more ops and players. This year should be very interesting as things develop and we get more details.

But in order to get it out there to the masses he will need to have distributors. He will need to have the machine playable for people who will never ever ever ever know who he his buy his machine.

But from what I can tell hes not in it to be greedy. He just wants to make a pin that people will fully enjoy playing and for that I salute him.

Deadly,

Good post on the WOZ. Sounds very promising, and Jack is taking the right approach. While i am sure it will be an incredible machine, i am going to pass. Although i dont base my Pin buys entirely on theme, with space limited (4 pins only!)i need to be selective.

Now, the Muppets - if its true, i will sell whatever i have to get that Pin in (most likely, IM or SM will go sadly). I will be first on line for that game. Even if its more of the same - or even a retheme - i am in. Its that powerful of a theme. And, i know Stern Excels at software, and the possibility of great software with that theme is written all over it. It would be hard to drop the ball there. I think Stern will sell ALOT of those - including crossing over more into Mainstream. Lots of 35 - 45 years olds, with prime spending power, that game hits em hard on the theme. Its a perfect game room fixture - good for adults and kids. Add to that, if the film does well - well, look where i am going - pure speculation.

I think it may be possible. They started that rumor around the time the film was filming, and the film is due Christmas time. I mean, beyond Tron, i havent heard anything else. The only thing that throws me a curveball is that Stern only releases (at least, i think they do) two per year. With Rolling Stones and Tron (supposed to be) on the horizon, this kind of breaks that. Unless, they release it post film / early next year.

definitely something to look ahead to.

Stern *used* to excel at sw. Lately they're just rehashing the same shallow start-the-multiballs approach.

Great Stern software games? Lord of the Rings. Simpsons Party Pinball. World Poker Tour (updated release). And who did the sw on those? Keith Johnson. Who happens to be programming for WOZ now. That's what got me excited about the JJP project.

i'm pretty sure they've done 3+ in some years.....i'm thinking that if TRON comes out in april, as is rumored, we'll be seeing a late-year STERN pin (maybe september-november window?).

Holy shit if that's true I might have my first NIB game :)

dude....i'd LOVE to have a transformers pin, as would my 6 year old. but there's no way the wifey is gonna let me go with two NIB purchases in a single year. and i'm a TRON geek....always have been. i love the transformers (old school more than the movies, but still), but i absolutely CANNOT pass on a TRON pin. that's gonna be my first NIB pin.

i wish they'd postpone any transformers pin until, say, august of 2012.....if THAT were the case, i might be able to snag both. :)

Could be a good one. But for a Transformers pin, I want playfield toys that *morph*!!!

there's a HUGE opportunity for playfield toys to be above/beyond what we've seen with a transformers license......the "morphs" don't even have to be that elaborate. hell, they have toys that "morph" in 3 or less moves. that could be done with a pin. all you have to do is use that transforming sound effect in the background, have a playfield toy go through even TWO moves, and you've got a nerdgasm on your hands. :)

personally i don't feel the love for a muppets pin. and, yes, i grew up watching it, and, yes, a fine show. great pin? meh, maybe... i just think there are so many other, better, themes to go with - as suggested in the recent thread on the topic (or an original, which would be fantastic)...

Yeah, but I'm still concerned. Look at the pretty weak toys in Avatar that you had to buy the *LE* version to get!

Jack is already the importer/distributor for Elaut (elautusa.com) and thus probably has contacts and smaller distributors all over the usa..
I don't worry about this nor him being genuine - I think the turnover Elaut has in a month will be bigger than Stern does in a whole year..

Great news to have him email you, he sure keeps contact with (potential) customers. Much better than playing stupid question games on facebook like some other company :)
