Today, after digging for the right cab to bring back to life, I found a local guy with a garage full of cabs in progress, mostly MAME machines. Among the projects was a Konami Simpsons 4 player cab with nearly nothing to show of it's former identity.

The game was converted to a Golden Tee somewhere along the way. All artwork has been completely painted over and the original CP is hacked up.

The guy I bought it from had actually cut a new CP, but drilled a 2 player Street Fighter-esque button layout into the wood.

Shockingly... Whoever covered this cabinet in cheap black paint from top to bottom had the sense to mask over the original cabinet serial tag on the back of the cab - and then paint over the masking tape. Peeled back the masking tape and the original Simpsons tag was revealed.

I'm not a huge Simpsons fan, honestly I would have rather this been a TMNT cab, but I'm thankful to have found it. I think for the sake of original intention, I may return it to Simpsons as opposed to another Konami beat em up of the same era.

The best part? I literally know nothing about the inner workings of a cab. I'm a musician with engineers for brothers on either side. Damn you technical genes for skipping over me. This is indeed my cab to learn on.

Congratulations man! Looks like a great project to start with.

I would highly recommend you check out ArcadeRepairTips.com - they have a great question and answer podcast, numerous how-to videos on YouTube ( youtube.arcaderepairtips.com ), and DVDs available.

It's a great place to start learning about this stuff. Listen to enough of their podcast or watch enough of their videos and you'll be fixing that cab in no time.

And no, I don't have any affiliation with them. I'm just someone who has learned quite a bit from them and like to share that when I see someone who is just getting into this great hobby.

That will be a fun project. You can do a TON with a big JAMMA cabinet.. lots of boards to buy and try, adaptors for those that aren't JAMMA, and you can really do something with a big control panel.

I think those Konami cabs are some of the best around. In my opinion the perfect cab for a first timer like yourself

If I were you I would restore it back to a Simpsons cab, sell it to someone who would love it and treat it right, and take that money to buy yourself a TMNT cab and supplies if it needs restored as well. That's what I would do at least. But I love both games! =) Good Luck!

Do you have any pictures of the inside? Does it even have the Simpsons board(s)?

If not, build it into whatever you really want, because without those, and without the other items you mentioned that are missing, it's essentially a JAMMA shell at this point.

If you aren't a huge fan of The Simpsons, maybe offer it up for sale here to see if there are any KLOV'ers looking to build/restore one. If there aren't any takers, pick up a JAMMA board of something you really want, and get busy.

Yo man, where in Detroit are you located at? I'm in Canton. Nice cab btw. I've always wanted either a Simpsons or TMNT. One of those games is hopefully gonna be the next one I get.
