Hello all. I, like so many others, have not truly discovered my passion in life. I am 30 years old and have just come to the realization that I NEED to restore, own, and care for vintage arcade machines. My old friend owns two arcade machines, Area 51 with the two guns, and Marvel vs Capcom 2. They have been in his parent's garage for a long time now. I know for a fact that at least one of them does not display video and the other may have problems as well. For my first project I plan on fixing and restoring these two awesome games to "like-new" while preserving the history behind them. I will be bringing them into my living room (I have an awesome wife!) to do the work which will be nice to get them out of a garage and into the house. I joined here because after looking at other "arcade forums" this seemed like the best fit for me to get good info for preserving and fixing what is already there. I just need to clear an area in my house for them and then I will be picking them up from my friend's parent's house to begin! I am so excited in fact that I bought tickets to California Extreme 2017! (http://www.caextreme.org/cax2016) I found out about the event through this website and just knew that I had to go, not only for fun, but I'm sure I will learn a lot too! I am terribly excited to get started, I look forward to meeting you all and picking your brains once I begin to have questions. I will post pictures the day I go to pick them up! Thanks in advance!

P.S.
I love my two cats: Alice & Chauncey

Welcome and yes, you have found the right place. Both of those games are on my favorites list and are crowd pleasers. Looking forward to seeing how you progress and giving any help I can.

PS you will find that the cats love to perch on top of these things.

NO!!!!! Get out now while you can, before it's too late. It won't be just two games, or four, or 8 or 16 or 20 or 40. First the basement, then the garage, then the storage unit for games you tell yourself your gonna restore........aaarrggghhh The insanity.......it's a virus. Oh well, welcome to the club. Misery LOVES company!!!

First taste is free... Just kidding, more like $600 not including shipping. Welcome to the addiction.

Hey, thanks for making me feel so welcome! Working on getting a few photos to post, but in the meantime, here's one of my cats Chauncey hanging out in his tunnel made for small children... 😻

DAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW KITTEHS

Yep. Welcome to the madness, old chap. I'm gonna guess you're 35ish.

If you ever want to play some awesome games that I know seem unobtainable to me, check out Arcade 2084 in Anaheim. They've got some great classics and the people there are really cool. $10 and everything's on freeplay soda and water included, only thing is they're only open on saturdays from 7pm to midnight. If they were open more I'd be there all the time. Welcome to the addiction, hell im even addicted to this forum, Craigslist and offerup now as well.

I don't know if I'd say "Get Out Now," but it's definitely an addictive hobby. I started with a homemade multicade around March, a year ago. By July of last year, I purchased my first dedicated cabinet. A year later, I have 12 dedicated cabinets, a pinball machine, a Visual Pinbal home built Ice Cold Beer, and I just picked up a REAL Ice Cold Beer a couple of days ago.

My game room is PACKED. I literally have 3 games more than will fit. We're looking for a new house, and my only criterion is "a big basement." My wife gets to pick everything else.

Good luck!!!

If you're selling, lmk ;)

Welcome, OP!

Welcome to the insanity! It's a great time, but be careful. In my life I've been into a good number of hobbies. In this one I've never met more generous people, but I've also never been ripped off to such an extent.

Never pay PayPal fees if you're the buyer, and don't use F&F until you've dealt extensively with the other party.

Good luck, and again, welcome!
